Good non-damaging spells for a cleric

No, because that opens the door to abuses. Cutting the support of a bridge isn't directly damaging but would certainly harm the creatures crossing the bridge.

The intent of the restriction is that my character cannot intentionally harm another living creature, directly or indirectly.
My DM isn't the type to pull a dirty stunt like the bird, and I'm not interested in finding a loophole

Whoa.

So in your bridge example, you could cut the bridge support if those that follow knew they were cut?

IOW: "What if you caused some sort of barrier that could cause damage, but only if the opponent ignored the warning signs?"

If there was no one on the bridge at the time. It's a borderline area and not one I want to explore.

As I said at the beginning. I'm looking for recomendations from other people who have played clerics for good/must-have non-damaging spells from PHB and SpC

Thanks

Heh, heh.

And if yer DM's any good, he'll make sure you "explore" it. :D

Some spell that in no way are offensive. There is a pretty thick gray area for offensive party buffs like bull's strength or aid and spells that weaken enemies without doing damage like Vulnerability (SC) or Nauseating Breath (SC).

3: Dispel Magic, Invis Purge (depending on campaign), speak with dead, stone shape
4: air walk (depending on paty composition), death ward, dismissal, divination, freedom of movement, neutralize poison (on scrolls), restoration (on scrolls), spell immunity (depending on campaign), tongues (depending on party composition/campaign)
5: break enchantment (nice on a scroll), spell resistance, true seeing
6: find the path (a.k.a. break the adventure)
7: repulsion
8: hoy aura

Spell CompendiumFortunate Fate
Revivify
Mass Resist Energy
Lesser Vigor
Mass Lesser Vigor

As to your spell question, these are the low level "non-damaging" cleric spells I found useful after playing through 21 levels of cleric:

1st
  • Obscuring Mist
  • Resurgence(SC)
  • Sign(SC)
  • Vigor, Lesser(SC) (a wand of this is best)

2nd
  • Close Wounds(SC)
  • Luminous Armor (BoED)
  • Silence
  • Restoration, Lesser
3rd
  • Invisibility Purge
  • Conviction, Mass(SC)
  • Magic Vestment
  • Resist Energy, Mass(SC)
  • Resurgence, Mass(SC)
  • Wind Wall
4th
  • Freedom of Movement
  • Magic Weapon, Greater
  • Recitation(SC)
  • Status, Greater (BoED)

Thanks. I'll take a look at all those.
I've grown quite fond of shatter, to be used on opponent's weapons, on doors, barred gates, etc.

I'm sure the grey areas will come up. Will deal with them as and when. Just makes the game more fun. :-) (but only with a good DM)

A bunch of Battlemagic Perception, from Heroes of Battle... if that book is available. And then various spells from every school, and just stand there and counter everything thrown around.
