Good Superhero-Game?

Right. It's entirely possible to play HERO in a very Sim mode or a heavy Nar mode where balance isn't really all that important.

That said, I still strive to keep PCs balanced in our games. I just never see the kind of wacked constructs people offer as proof of HERO's flaws. I mean, I can't deny there are issues, but I just don't see them come up as much as others do.

The sticking point may be that, like D&D, every group's HERO isn't quite the same game as any other group's HERO, so when you talk about what it "is", you can't really say anything meaningful until you get an idea of how a given group is using the system.

I also recommend M&M2e, and I've played pretty much all of them. I've found M&M to be more flexible in practice than Hero, and is several orders of magnitude simpler and faster in play, without losing any of the rich options for character actions.

It's also very easy to GM. I'm the GM of the egyptian mexican wrestler/talking teleporting dog/whirling overcaffeinated speedster/girl-hitting greek-artifact-wearing brick group, and with characters like that I have to improvise the responses to them quite often. Half of the time I invent game mechanics for NPCs on the spot, and M&M works great for that.

I wonder if Mike would give you Drawback: Teammates. Or barring that, Complication. We're at least worth a Complication.
Hanging around with the Ancient Egyptian God of Mexican Wrestlers From The Future, the overcaffeinated whirling son of a whirling two-bit-criminal father, and a smartass alien world-conquering dog (who seems to have an affinity for female police dogs) . . . nothing complicating about that. :) Maybe Chris should have Complication: Weirdness Magnet. . . . or not, because then he'd get hundreds of hero points a session, judging by the way things have gone so far.

I am tempted to give him Favored Enemy: Girls for free, though..

Sounds like a hilarious group, and the Ancient Egyptian God of Mexican Wrestling is just frickin hilarious.
Hosiris is indeed quite a piece of work. In every single session since he joined the game I've had to NPC at least one "you're the what?" scene. (Except for that one punk who replied "yeah, that's what I thought" when Hosiris said what he was.)

When I repeated this story to my M&M group, my co-GM said, "He's the Egyptian God of WHAT?" And one of the players said, "The WHAT of mexican wrestling?"

I cracked all over again.

Shouldn't it be Favored Enemy: Canines (or Talking Dogs, if we want to get more specific)? Favored Enemy: Girls would only apply if he needed to get better at hitting them, and he's already damn good at that :o And as last session showed, he's even better in a fight when there aren't any girls around. Hmmm - maybe he needs to take them as a Drawback?

Make sure to tell them that he's a short and pudgy 14 year old kid from LA, whose use of the Quick Change feat consists of throwing off his t-shirt and slipping on his wrestling mask. And when he does that the light of Ramon-Ra illuminates him and mariachi music kicks up in the background.

Plus last session he discovered his battle-cry - "Can you smell what Joseirus is refrying?"

I'm beginning to think we need to start a thread just to talk about that game.
