Got Ghostwalk!

The reason I didn't get it is the same reason I don't play underwater campaigns. It starts to become much like Spongebob's - Bikini Bottom world where you forget your underwater unless something blows a bubble or something.

Don't get me wrong, I love Spongebob!!

I too got a comp copy and have been looking it over.

Overall, while certainly a very solid product, I am finding that it's not tripping my trigger. Here are some of my "issues" with it:

1) Not 3.5-ready. I recall that this book was "done" quite a while ago and has kind of been in the wings waiting for its release, and it shows in things like monster stats.

That stinks. I know that WotC is supposed to have a web enhancement, but it would've been nice if they had just held off on releasing this until they could update it.

2) "Ghosts are not ghosts." They have to kind of totally re-work some issues about how death works, and as such the ghost template from the MM is quite different from the ghost of Ghostwalk.

Expected this, and I actually think it's a good thing. I like it when a setting or module makes some specific changes to a standard class or monster in order for more game flavor. While it doesn't mean it can be dropped into a game as easily, if at all, I kind of like having some things be non-generic.

6) There's a chapter that describes the "countries" in the viscinity but (unless I missed it) there's no map. There are some maps of certain regions, and there is a map of the city of Manifest.

Ouch. If that's true (I just flipped through my copy and I think you're right), that's a goof. The book was originally going to have a poster map of the city, with a smaller (1/2 page) panel showing the nearby countries. When the poster map was cut, the city maps became interior maps, but it looks like the country map was left out.

Fortunately I think I have all of my original maps, so we can get it made and posted (that is, assuming the map hasn't already been done and was just left out of the book).

Good to know!

That would be cool. I just bought my copy today and while I like the book overall, it was bewildering and a bit of disappointing not to have the map - even if I won't be using most of the countries.

So far I like the rest of the book though and I'm thinking where to place Manifest and Sura-Khiri in my world.

To answer Gez's question on the elf-subrace, it's not so much a subrace as a culture. A culture described well enough (under Sura-Khiri) that I plan on finding a place for it in my world.

Went out and bought Ghostwalk earlier in the day and have been reading through it pretty much nonstop for hours. It simply is awesome as a setting. Everyone did a super job on it, and most of the art is excellent as well. The no map is a bummer, but hopefully this will be rectified. Kudos to the writers and illustrators. Even if you don't intend to use the setting, it is a damned good read.

RPGA Playtesters

I just downloaded the web enhancement and found out that they left us RPGA playtesters out of the book - but they did credit us in the web enhancement.

The web enhancement looks pretty good, go get it! :) There's also an excerpt from the book too.
