Greater Magic Weapon stacks with "Normal" magic weapons?

I'm confused.

I've seen a lot of posts on these boards that would indicate that a +2 Greater Magic Weapon cast on a +3 sword would net you a +5 sword for the duration of the spell. Yet reading the text of GMW would indicate that it is the same type of bonus as the +3 sword and therefore would not stack.

Am I missing something?

Both are enhancement bonuses - hence, they don't stack.

They do not stack. Apply a +2 from GMW onto a +3 sword, and you still have a +3 sword.

6 options -

1.) Get a better sword
2.) Do lots of damage
3.) Cast Bless Weapon - automatically negates damage reduction of evil creatures.
4.) Get the epic feat that gives you an extra +2 to the effective enhancement of your weapon solely for the purpose of negating damage reduction.
