Green Ronin announces 3rd Era

Interesting advice but what if you've already got the goods from various sales or heck, when it originally came out?

If you already have a car and someone announces a sale on cars do you go to the showroom and complain that you do not need a car?

Yeah, I'm not quite sure what the problem is here. If you have the books, it's pretty much irrelevant to you if they continue to produce the books.

I see the GR announcement as a good thing despite owning most of their books that I want.

1. I had recently turned the two DMs for another group onto GR through M&M. They were interested in several Master Class books and Advanced Bestiary.

2. Any new players coming into my game will quickly be able to find copies of the Master Class books.

3. If they re-release the Psychic's Handbook, my players will be able to get their own copies without having to pay jacked up collectable prices.

4. I can continue recommending GR books to others, because they are available.

I complain if they don't have the car I want and it's suggested that the car I want may come out if I buy a few more of the cars I already have.

Gaging the demand of the market by virtue of their actual buying habits rather than vocal minority posters seems a very solid way to move forward for GR. How do you feel about Open Design and other such Patronage Projects?

I've supported Open Design in the past. The Empire of the Ghouls man!

If they do Zobek 4th edition, I'm there.

On the other hand, gauging the market when you've already said that 3.5 sales are dead and are doing this anyway... that's probably not the best way to guage the market either, espeically if you're not coming up with new product or making htis product explicity Pathfinder compaitible and using the Pathfinder logos, etc...

They were pretty clear that they have seen a demand to keep their old d20 products in print and have found a cost effect way to do so. While it takes some effort to do what they are doing, it's a matter of replacing a logo in a few places in the original design files, removing some IP text and uploading the files to lulu while also replacing the old PDF files where they are currently housed. They may also have to make some additional adjustments to the cover files. What you are suggesting would require a whole new investment of money and time for which they need to be able to see support prior to making such a move.

Okay, so how do folks show this support then?
"We will make new products if you buy products, but we don't have any to sell."

If GR posted a thing saying "we'll be making a 3.5 Class Book, X pages for Y price, but only once we have 500 orders. Once we have such, it'll be out in 9 months." People would probably buy it, but saying long time fans need to show support and not offering them a way to do so is sort of redundant.

Now, there's nothing wrong with saying "we believe our resources are better used elsewhere, sorry." It's just the "if demand is there, we will do it" with no method to demonstrate demand.
