EVERYONE: What do you do?
Quixt:
In Elvish, he whispers “Let’s go.” He whispers his memorized conjuration and casts the summoning. The fire beetle appears 40’ away just north of the northern most red orc, seemingly coming out of the sand. (Cell X16)

Following Quixt with quiet deftness, Sphynx tries to remain at the outer edge of the magical sphere, believing he can sense it, somehow, with his innate affinity for magic. When in agreement, he will sacrifice his obscuring fog for the druidic talent to summon, in coordination with the scroll being read. Whatever happens to be summoned is targeted to arrive to effectively distract the Wendol from the party's location.

GM:
Quixt summons a Celestial Giant Fire Beetle, and Sphynx summons a Wolf. (See stats in spoiler boxes above.) The Beetle appears in cell X16. The Wolf appears in cell @17.

GM:
SURPRISE ROUND:
Fire Beetle (Init: 18)
Wolf (Init: 15)

GM:
Roll: (3) = miss

Both summoned monsters are fast, but the Beetle proves faster. It attacks Orc #3. Its pincers bite the Orc's leg, but they fail to penetrate its studded leather.

GM:
Roll: (Nat 20) + (Confirm: AC 16) = Critical Bite.
2d6+2 = 11 Pts.

The Wolf snaps at Wendol #1; the Wendol is not as lucky as his Orc counterpart; the Wolf's bite pierces his hide armor, tearing a bloody chunk out of his right calf. The Wendol screams in a mixture of pain and surprise, as he looks with horror on the sudden appearance of an apex predator.

Wendol (Init: 7b)
Bugbears (Init: 6)

Taking a step to his left to gain line of sight, Sphynx, not knowing if he will be able to affect more than target, quickly blows a pinch of sand from his left hand and centers his sleep spell on the Orc he can clearly see (O1).
OOC: Init: d20 + 4DEX + 4feat = 18 + 8 = 26
Sleep: d4 = 4

Sphynx, suddenly realizing a better way to position himself, advances to a position that gives him the drop on the maximum amount of Orcs as is possible (2). As he casts, his spell, he becomes visible, but it is of no consequence; the weak-minded cretins drop to the ground, their minds completely in the grip of Sphynx's powerful Sleep spell.

GM:
DC: 18
Orc Save: Will: -2
(Orcs need a Twenty to resist.)
Orc #1: Natural 1 (Fail)
Orc #2: Natural 1 (Fail)
WOW. The dice didn't like these guys...
Sleep duration: 7 Minutes (70 rounds) x2 (Natural 1's) = 14 Minutes (140 Rounds)

With but a thought, Sphynx mentally commands his Wolf to continue attacking Wendol #1. The creature immediately obeys, continuing to snap and tear at the tribesman. His bites grazes him, drawing blood nonetheless.

GM:
Wolf Attack: (17) vs AC 14 (Hit); Damage: 1d6+1 = 2 pts. (Rolled 1.)

Orc #2 charges to the aid of his friend, whom he saw crumple to the ground. He rushes forward, bringing his full might down onto the beetle's shell with his falchion. He hits it squarely, delivering a powerful blow, which kills it instantly; but unlike a normal creature, the beetle does NOT burst into a puddle of blood and guts. Instead, being a summoned creature, it simply vanishes in a puff of smoke.

GM:
Orcs sleep duration tally: 1 round.

Hawke calls an "audible," telling Quixt to move straight forward 30 feet; Nimbar follows suit, and the three friends adjust their pacing in order to stay together.

GM:
Quixt and Nimbar delay their initiatives to match Hawke's.

Hawke rages, and begins to charge diagonally, at the same time that Quixt and Nimbar begin to advance. Hawke suddenly becomes visible, as bears down on Bugbear #2; Quixt and Nimbar remain invisible as they continue to advance.

GM:
Hawke charges, using his POUNCE and WHIRLING FRENZY abilities. (4 attacks @ +11)
Rolls: 29,30,15,29: Hit, Hit, Miss, Hit
(Primary hit, Primary hit, Secondary miss, Primary hit)
Damage for Primary Attack: 1d8+7
Damage rolls: 12,13,12 = 37 pts. damage.
Bugbear: 16 - 37 = -21. DEAD.

The bugbear is taken by surprise, and Hawke squishes him, as the first part of his name implies: LIKE A BUG. The first strike smashes the cretin's knee, forcing him down. The second strike crushes his left shoulder, causing him to "shrug" involuntarily. It is this shrugging movement that puts him out of position for the third strike, which misses. As Hawke is passing him, the last strike is a backward swing, which clip's the bugbear's skull, cracking it with a sickening, "snap" sound. As the creature slumps to the ground, the trickle of blood coming from his ear tells the tale of his death, as a result of severe internal injuries.

As Quixt comes to the end of his movement, he points the wand at Bugbear #3; but the creature somehow shakes off the effect, and remains free to act.

GM:
Bugbear Will Save +1 = Roll 18 = Makes a 19 Save (Success vs DC 13)

Nimbar casts Magic Missile at Bugbear #3, also becoming visible as he does so.

GM:
3d4+3 = 14 pts.

The Bugbear lurches in pain as the three, blue, bolts of light slam into him. His eyes bleed as the energy courses through his body, but somehow, he summons the will to remain standing.

Both Wendol Attack the wolf, with a fury born of desperation.
GM:
1d20+7 = Rolls: 26,12 = Hit, Miss
Damage (1d6+4) = 5+4 = 9 pts.

The wounded Wendol attacks savagely with his spiked club, managing to gouge out a chunk of flesh from the wolf's side; the wolf howls in pain, but remains in the fight, snarling with desperation.

Despite the pain he is in, Bugbear #3 joins his comrade (#1) in charging Hawke, hoping to get vengeance for their fallen brother-in-arms.

GM:
Hawke's Normal AC: 20 (Currently: 18 from Charging)
Bugbear Attacks (1d20+5); +2 from Charge. Rolls: 8,10 = Miss, Miss

Hawke easily sidesteps both charging clods, whom are extremely clumsy in their ability, relying too much on raw strength and fury. And although Hawke relied heavily on rage, his anger was channeled, directed, far more efficient.

GM:
SECOND ROUND:
Sphynx / Wolf (Init: 26)
Orcs (Init: 20)
Hawke (Init: 7a)
Quixt (Init: 7b)
Nimbar (Init: 7c)
Wendol (Init: 7d)
Bugbears (Init: 6)

Wendol #1: Seriously Injured (13 pts.)
Bugbear #3: Gravely Injured (14 pts.)
Wolf: Seriously Injured (9 pts.)

Invisibility rounds remaining: None (Everyone has attacked.)

Pleased to see two Orcs fall from his sleep spell, Sphynx moves farther forward, rolls his left arm in a left-hand gyre, pointing his fingers toward the last standing Orc, with his palm upward. He twills a strange sound as he does so.
OOC: Cast magic missile.

GM:
CL: 7th: (4d4+4) = 4,3,4,1 = (12) = ((12)+4) = 16 pts. of damage.
Orc is DEAD.

Orc #2's attention is focused on the wolf; he never sees the 4 bolts of blue energy coming; and never feels his head explode, as all four missiles strike him in his left temple.

GM:
Wolf attack: (Nat 20) + (15) = Confirmed Critical Bite.
Crit Damage: 2d6+2 = 5,6 = 11+2 = 13 pts.
Wendol: 6-13 = -7; Wendol is down and bleeding out.

The wolf continues to attack his opponent, fiercely snapping at him; the Wendol tries to sidestep the wolf, but is unable to move quickly enough; the wolf leaps at his throat, and connects! Wendol #1 goes down, the wolf's jaws still clamped on his throat, blood spewing wildly onto both his ravenous opponent, and the ground.

GM:
Orc sleep duration tally: 2 rounds.

Hawke's turn is coming up next. Stay tuned!

Tellerian Hawke

Defender of Oerth
GM:
Hawke's attacks w/ WF: 26,29(20),11 = Hit, Crit, Miss (Primary Hit, Secondary Crit, Primary Miss)
Damage for Primary: 1d8+7 = 12 pts. damage. Bugbear #3 dies. (-10)
Damage for Secondary: 2d4+6 = 13 pts. damage. Bugbear #1 is gravely injured. (16 - 13 = 3 hit pts.)

Hawke is a literal whirlwind of rage and fury; his first blow crushes the skull of Bugbear #3, dropping him like a sack of grain, with a sickening crunch. His next blow cracks the sternum of Bugbear #1, whose eyes go wide with fear when he realizes the sheer power of his opponent. The desperate Bugbear is barely able to block Hawke's third blow with his morning star, but against Hawke's speed and fury, it is an extreme effort, and the Bugbear knows that his luck won't last.

Quixt: Seeing that Hawke and Sphynx’s initial quick actions appear to have their respective opponents severely wounded or incapacited, he turns his wand toward the surviving Wendol and discharges another attempt at magically paralyzing him. “It might be a good idea to have a prisoner or two to interrogate if they’ll go quietly, ” Quixt thinks to himself almost involuntarily.
the wand discharges.
