Ongwi pulls up short, his keen eyes picking out a glacial rift in his path covered in a thin sheet of ice and drifts of icy dust.

OOC: The rift cuts across your path north to south as far as the visibility conditions (about 100 yards) allow you to see, though it appears to narrow to the north and widen to the south.

Arturio's bored mind reverts to his training as an officer in his father's cavalry troop.

17...18...19...who's missing?

Flipping up his visor, he does another quick count and realizes that Arnvid and another of the Vanir horsmen are no longer in the party.

Ongwi holds up his hand in signal to stop with standard Pict assumptions that those behind are paying attention. His back still to the group, he slowly works his way north to find a safe crossing over the rift.

Arturio

"Huh? Arnvid? ARNVID?!?"

His voice trailed off as his eyes darted around...had they ridden into an ambush?

Arturio raised his voice. "Have any of you seen Arnvid or your other companion? Look alive and see to your blades...the enemy may be nigh!"

Leaving nothing to chance, he drew his enormous blade and used his knees to guide the garron in a tight circle [ride, take 10], looking for signs of ambush.

"Huh? Arnvahr, where has your brother gotten too? It looks like we are missing at least one other warrior as well..."

OOC: Arnvahr is long gone. He took off with the 'infantry' in the opposite direction from you guys. What you're left with are the rest of the cavalry. So from the starting point, Arnvahr went northwest, and Arnvid (and you) went northeast. Kind of a scissor maneauver... Sorry if that wasn't clear, and let me know if you don't want to say what you posted above out loud.

"The enemy without or within?" replies Ongwi matter-of-factly.

Arturio

"By Mitra's beard...I have no idea. Find us a way to the enemy...I'll not take Arnvahr's gold and leave him to fight the Blood Ravens with half his expected force because his brother got lost."

Arturio's voice rumbles from behind his helm, "Look alive, bear-brothers, keep your wits about you and your eyes sharp."

He pushes his helm back and glances back along their line of march, searching for Arnvahr's wayward brother.

"If he got lost you mean Arturio. Crowns do not sit easily on sibling's heads" replies the Pict as he follows the rift lines.

This is why I am the scout :p

OOC: I was thinking it was more along the lines of, "He's the scout because he wants his neck to be first into the snare. YMMV. :p

Mananga shrugged. "We say to the north man, 'Your brother fell through the ice.' He turns up later, we cheer his cleverness."

"The enemy without or within?" replied Ongwi matter-of-factly.

Mananga clenched his teeth and nodded.
