Has anyone got any flak for buildung a character that wasnt optimized?

It seems to me that smart play requires paying attention to the character sheet and so can't really be said to be mo0re important than it.

To clarify, I was using "character sheet" as shorthand for how optimized (or not) the character is. Meaning that a badly unoptimized character played well is (or can be) more effective than a highly optimized character played poorly.

I’m not sure how that applies to me & my whackadoodle PCs.

Same answer as above.

EDIT: I wonder if there's an effect at play here where a forum response is assumed to be a refutation, unless it's very clearly indicated otherwise. So any ambiguity will tend to be interpreted as argument, not agreement.

Sure I've had people get upset that I didn't build my character the way they thought was optimal, I either ignore those individuals or find other groups if it's that pervasive. I will say Pathfinder players seem to the worst about it. Maybe it's just bad luck on my part but I seem to consistently find those people who try to tell you how to have fun in pathfinder games. I don't see it in D&D games as much.

Crikey yeah. In PF1 it's hard to be suboptimal; in PF2 it's a criminal offence

Didn’t think it was a refutation- your meaning just…wasn’t clear.

I wonder if it's because with the transition to D&D 5e and PF2, the people who like crunchy games and optimization self-selected for PF.
Yeah I have transitioned to 5e but still play some PF. A lot of those guys seem to enjoy the insane amount of options in PF and see blatant OP stuff as a feature, and not poor playtesting. I guess that's a separate thread!
