Hasn't D&D become even more fun lately?

So, how has your enjoyment of D&D changed over time?

I don't enjoy the game as much as I used to, but that has nothing to do with changes to the game itself. It has to do with changes in my free time, my priorities and my gaming groups.

Well... I enjoy the game as much as ever, but the things I enjoy about the game have changed. Once upon a time, the things I enjoyed most about the game were creating the worlds and adventures. Now, I find creating (particularly adventures) tedious and needlessly time-consuming. I'm sick of doing that work.

However, I still thoroughly enjoy running games, and have found that an excellent pre-written adventure will take the place of my own creations without too much trouble. Certainly, I thoroughly enjoyed "Shackled City", and would very much like to run "Age of Worms".

Now, if only I could find a group...

I voted "Don't enjoy it as much...but still like it alot."

Let me be clear though, this has almost nothing to do with the game system.

I started in the early 80's, so I have played through three decades. The biggest factor in my enjoyment has been the groups that I have gamed with. Good group=Big fun. Bad group=not so much. Currently I have a sorta group. We sorta get together. Sorta regularly. Most of the group members sorta know the rules. :( . 3.X has intensified the difficulty for me to find a compatable gaming group because the rules allow for so much flexibility in play styles. I think the flexibility is a good thing, but now I sometimes find a group to play with that ends up having such a divergent style from my own (Character optimization over all else! for example) that I just don't enjoy the game as much.

I have lamented before that I live in a gamer wasteland, and that my public service job makes it difficult for me to schedule gaming. Those are the issues that have lessened my enjoyment over time. Has little to do with the system.

I'd almost just put ditto to this. The rules are great & not the area of concern. I'm the DM for the group I run, but I am getting tired of players who just want me to tell them a story & to roll the dice. All the neat material out there is pretty much wasted for me, because I cant get players interested in charcter development beyond intitial creation, if that. My wife likes to get into character, along with my two best friends who, unfortunately, are in Iraq right now.

One pster said it is the DM that makes the game. I'm here to tell you that lousy players can ruin it too. I would gladly drop to just playing for awhile.

My enjoyment has changed over time. Most of it, however, has to do with rules adjudication than anything. We still have lots of fun with it, but I'm reaching a "jaded nostalgia" mode where I'd just as soon have characters with only a few preset abilities and we jump on in. Having to know each and every capability of my Players' characters can be a bit of a chore, especially at higher level.

I loved 3rd Edition from the moment it came out, and that enjoyment has grown over time with each new supplement that I feel the need to grab off the shelf. Unfortunately, it feels like my enjoyment is hitting its upper limit, and I'm not really being inspired by any of the new material coming out. On top of that, it just seems like there's so much opportunity with all the other d20 games out there. What I enjoy about role-playing now has nothing whatsoever to do with D&D.
