Haste & Rapid Shot?

Sure, he's right. To initiate such a house rule, that is. By the RAW, the effects of haste and Rapid Shot do stack.

Lol, alright. He seems to think that it isnt a house rule, that the description of Haste specifically forbids it... but thanks, Ill show this to him and see what he says.
 

By the RAW your DM is wrong (a DM is always free to make any houserule he wants.) The reason that the extra attack from a speed weapon does not stack with the extra attack from haste is because both attacks are derived from the same source and you cannot double stack the same bonus in DnD

Guys, remember we are in D&D Rules, not House Rules. So the DM is wrong :p - especially since Chris said that the DM played by the rules (or how he perceived them) rather than houseruling differently.

If you want an explanation for it: Rapid Shot (and similar abilities, like the monk's flurry or the bladesinger's song of fury) give you more attacks because you learn to naturally move faster than the norm, going through the motions faster at the cost of accuracy (though often, you can get rid of the penalty). Haste, on the other hand, makes you faster then you are normally using magic. Haste is no better training, haste speeds up your metabolism (and older editions actually aged you a year per casting of haste).

These two things should stack: You're faster because magic accelerates you, but you still go through the motions faster than your average character because of your training and because you give up some of your accuracy.

Speed and haste, on the other hand, are practically the same effect - acceleration through magic - and in D&D, things usually don't stuck with themselves.
