Have you decided to change systems?

Some thoughts...

I think system matters. But seldom to the extent that I'd rather not play than play X. If there is a game that bad, then nobody (in my groups) would be strongly set on running it.

I think system matters more when you're GM. There are certainly games I'd rather not run. Which is probably why all my groups have always left system choice up to the GM. Although the GM will consider the opinions of the players.

& I've played plenty of systems--& had a very good time doing so--without buying the books or really making an effort to learn the system. If the GM is running the system he feels most comfortable with, it's trivial for him to "convert" what I tell him I want my PC to do into that system's terms.

Ironically, I am just about to get back into D&D 3.5 as a player in a Ptolus campaign. Until recently, however, I was running HACKMASTER, until a TPK put the kibosh on that.

So I guess my answer is yes - I have changed systems - but in the other direction. I also continue to run a three-year-old Pulp Hero campaign with Hero System 5ed.

QFT again. I was a little worried about one of my players who had invested a lot of money in 3.5 and d20 modern product. But when it came down to it he was as excited as the rest of us when rolling up characters and talking about the new campaign.

Nonexistant in my experience. I have never seen a player so concerned with the rules used that they left the group.

Well I'm one of those players. I mostly DM and seldom get to play but when I do I want to play using a system that I enjoy playing in. I will not play in a game running anything before 3.0. Been there done that for the longest and have no desire to go back. I wont play in a RIFTS or Palladium system game. There are a few more games systems that I wont play in as well.I know what I like and I know what I dont like and it just seems kinda stupid to do something that you dont like doing...for fun. My time to play / run games is limited due to real life considerations, I'd just as rather do something else that I enjoy doing (assembling / painting miniatures, playing video games, spending time with my son) than to play using a system that I dont like.

You know, I guess I'm on both sides of the fence, on this one. :D That's exactly how I feel about online play -- I'm simply not interested, and would rather do something else. So I know what you mean. I don't feel that way about tabletop play, though. I have definite preferences, but I'd almost always rather play something tabletop RPG rather than nothing.

Probably just another one of those "each to their own" things.

I think a lot of these threads really come down to exactly this. :)

I've said this before and I'll say it again for all the arguing and discussion that goes on about how we game, the one thing that most people here seem to miss is that no two groups are going to do things exactly alike (and no should they) it all comes down to a matter of preference.
