Of all the 2024 products (and I've been very harsh on most of them) I'm looking forward to the MM the most. I've been pretty bullish about the monster-paradigm shift post-multiverse.

That being said, while I'm not surprised about the lack of monster-building rules, it's definitely put a damper on my enthusiasm.

Strong no from me.

At this point whenever I see WotC putting out the “new improved version” all I read is “this may be marginally equivalent to the most marginal third party products, likely with two steps forward two steps back design.”

Previews I’ve seen for 2024 MM have deeply confirmed that sense for me personally.

Layout changes reduce readability / usability for me.

Spellcasting is only marginally improved.

Compatibility issues with painting Legendary Reactions with broad stroke.

Minimal improvements from what I’ve seen, cleaving way to close to “one size fits all design/layout” that just doesn’t work.

Skeleton lore looked worse than 2014, concerned that’ll be a trend in order to stuff in more stat blocks.

Use of inspirational tables is greaaaaat…but depend on quality of entries as inspirational fodder. That’s a strong “wait and see” for me based on past attempts at this in WotC 5e product.

Stat blocks in desperate need of streamlining still.
