Special cover and digital version.

I think the Special cover is pretty. And once I get my German version, the english ones get a nice space on my shelf.

Digital is just useful.

Even though not everything is as I'd like from the previews, the book will probably be better than the 2014 version which in my opinion is a bit outdated.

A bit of streamling is not bad. Having just 3 rend attacks is way more useful than claw, claw, bite. Having to remember which is used twice with which die is difficult. Especially if you don't use all attacks on the same person. And even then, if you want to roll all attacks together, you need dice of different colour.

And for the fiction is is better to be able to attack the one on the fron woth claws and bite, and the one on the back with the tail. Unarmed strikes for characters always worked that way. So using that idea for monsters seems consistent.

Special cover at my FLGS, and then the D&D Beyond Bundle, because notwithstanding the beginning of this sentence, I think 2025 is going to be the year I move away from physical books of D&D...

Stat blocks in desperate need of streamlining still.
What do you mean by this? I am truly curious as generally respect your thoughtful approach to design, but I am not sure I agree with you here.
  1. I think some things could be streamlined, but I would hardly call it a "desperate need."
  2. I think some streamlining needs to be removed. I want important spells written out, not just a list. I want individual attacks that do unique things, not just "rends," etc.

Pre-ordered the alt-cover and a digital copy for Fantasy Grounds. I've been building a 2024 campaign in Fantasy Grounds over the last few months, just leaving placeholders for the encounters until the MM comes out. I'll probably be at my FLGS to get the hardcover on the early release date, I did that for the PHB and DMG.

I did, I'm not excited about 5.24 but I guess I feel the need to own it.
fight club i am jacks GIF

I'll keep using my 3rd ed MM if d20srd.org doesn't cut it.

Nope. I'm in a position where I can get the core book 2024 keys for free, so I have the PHB24 and the DMG24 on DDB- but I'm not buying any of them physically, and I stopped buying books on DDB after some lame issues on their end and being burned by a few disappointing releases (though I occasionally pay for a membership for a couple players' convenience since I bought every book on there up 'til Spelljammer broke my heart).
I'm a little interested to see new statblocks for IP monsters like the beholder and mind flayer, but I wouldn't buy it for that.

I'm tempted to preorder on D&D Beyond for the digital discount. But I want the special cover and I would rather give my money to FLGS. Paying an extra $19 by forgoing the DDB bundle discount is a bit steep. If I could get the special cover, I would consider buying the bungle, but I much prefer the special covers for the 2024 core books. I wish I could get the discount on the DDB digital version if I buy from a FLGS.

No, but my FLGS has me on their list of people to pull it for.
mine too...I think. I went there a few weeks back and they said they set one aside for me, but I have my doubts that they will. Pre-ordering and pre-paying for it wasn't an option, so we'll see. If for some reason they don't get them in or sell out, I have it pre-ordered on Amazon.
