HE-MAN Tomorrow!

I just watched the replay. Not bad. There are a few things missing so far:

1. Skeletor only said "Perhaps" once I think. In the old days, and especially in the comics that came with the dolls, he always said "Perhapssssss".

2. No ass-shots of Teela. Am I the only one who was longing for them?

3. He-Man didn't do that move where he tosses the sword between his two hands. Classic.

Otherwise, I really thought it was great. The essence of all of the characters was preserved. Merman rocked! I will definitely be watching next Friday.

The regular series doesn't start until Friday the 30th, at 6 pm Eastern. Next Friday afternoon will be the next Toonami animated feature, Transformers: Armada.

First off, I have to say when I was watching it, I was, for a few moments, in a nastaligc geek heaven :D

(just me, I know)...

It was just cool to watch it and try and remember what I was sooo into back in the early 80s when I was but still a baby.

Looking at the cartoon network's schedule, it looks like the first 3 episodes are called "Origins part 1, Origins part 2, and "Origins part 3" so I wouldn't be terribly surprised if these first three episodes were in fact simply half-hour segments of this 1.5 hour movie... (course, I could be wrong).

As for the person who posted the voice cast, -- THANKS! about three of those characters had _really_ familiar voices (one of which I am thinking was the voice of a Beagle Boy on Duck Tales)... now I can look it up online. :)

I wasn't too fond of Skeletors voice for some reason... may take some getting used to.

Yeah, my friend and I were flipping through channels and we happened across it, to our nostalgic surprise :)

It was interesting, I'll give it that. Could have done without the banter, and I so wanted them to drop the king down the cliff... me and Art were laughing our butts off.

Ugh, this show was horrible. The art was a touch better- but the story/dialogue is still as bad as the original series.

If they were going to bother, then why not either show the original series or improve on it.

Oh well, I guess it is for the youngins.

Sheesh.. such stupid villians..

I can't wait for this series to hit Brazil!

On a sidenote, King Randor and Queen Marlena are Adam's parents.

You guys might want to check out the on-line He-Man comic Emiliano Santalucia put out on he-man.org . To those who don't know, Emiliano (a great guy, btw) is the artist of the new He-Man comic by Image Comics!

When it first aired, I forgot to watch it and stumbled across only the climactic fight. I absolutely hated it. The voices of He-man and Skeletor were awful and the dialogue sucked. And the ending where Teela berated Adam for being a coward made me cringe.

However, I decided to watch it the next time it aired (mainly because I heard that it gave an origin to Skeletor). Seeing it from the begining, I was impressed. He-Man and Skeletor's voices still sucked (as did the now mentally retarded Whiplash and Clawster), and the dialogue wasn't any better, but the overall story seemed more engaging. I suppose I liked it for giving a backstory to everything the old series just tossed out.

My biggest complaint was that they seem intent to repeat the biggest problems of the original series: Prince Adam, Orko, and Cringer. Does anyone remember the old comics that came with the toys? Why couldn't they do something like that?

I suppose I wouldn't have minded the Adam/Cringer angle if, upon finding the sword, they were both PERMANENTLY transformed into He-Man and Battlecat.

The whole "sercret identity" thing is a sticking point for me. The Sorceress (great Egyptian design, btw) said that he couldn't reveal his identity in order to keep his family and friends safe. What is that?! I mean, he's the prince of the whole freakin' planet! Like he and his (royal) family don't have the best protection imaginable already.

Secondly, as prince, he and his family are already high profile targets. I mean, wasn't his father Skeletor's target in the pilot. Not to mention that the King is the one who inadvertantly disfigured Skeletor's face. Like there's anything that'll make him hate the King any more than he does now.

I'll give the series a chance. I just hope they cut back on the sword twirling.

I was just glad to find out that someone else enjoyed He-Man enough the first time to make a new series. I would like to see reruns of the original though.

I think the animation in this one was quite good, but the story was a bit on the lame side. I don't see the sword-twirling and banter going away though, since this seemed to me to be an attempt to anime-up the Masters of the Universe.

Did anyone else see the short bit about this cartoon that played on TV Guide Channel? They said that the action figures came about because Mattel was making figures for the movie Conan the Barbarian. Then when they found out that Conan was getting an 'R' rating, they changed the direction of the toy line and He-Man was born.

I was pretty impressed with what I've seen of it so far (the 90-minute origins movie). The animation is good, and of course the dialogue is bad - it's he-man, for crying out loud. It wouldn't be he-man without bad acting, without a secret identity, and without Cringer. I can remember trying to put a saddle on my cat when I was little :)

I'm definitely jazzed about the new series. And, I made my mom buy me a he-man figure at the store the other day...something she hasn't done in 18 years or so :)
