I am going to do an updated poll since I lumped everything together and made it into a crappy one. Hopefully this one is better.

Also, what you can do is discuss each one in detail why you like it and/or why you don't

Poll: Only click the "Yes" or "No" slot, don't click beside the actually name of the healing option.

You screwed it up again. You needed to check "can make multiple answers" box.

"Healing surges" isn't a complete enough question. Healing surges have a lot of facets:

  • They have a value that healing powers reference
  • They are a daily resource that are used by short rests
  • They are a daily resource that are used by healing powers
  • They are a daily resource that are used by the Second Wind action
So any criticism of healing surges is usually a criticism of something else that just uses healing surges as a resource. All they do by themselves is have a value and a limit of daily uses.

"Healing surges" isn't a complete enough question. Healing surges have a lot of facets:

They are a mechanic for self-healing in short rests (though that's more of a feature of the design focus on encounter resources)
They have a value that healing powers could reference (so healing powers, by default, restore 1/4 of the target's max hp)
They are a daily resource that healing powers use up (this solves a problem that was caused by having encounter-based healing powers; so again, that's the encounter-based design)

Well healing surges wasn't in any other edition of D&D so if you liked the healing surge mechanic from 4th then vote you like it.

I have posted a corrected poll and will ask these to be deleted.

The most common criticism of healing surges doesn't have much to do with the healing surge resource itself, but how it's used by short rests (which is more of a criticism of the short rest system than the healing surge mechanic). So it's not really useful to talk about it unless you establish what part of it you're talking about.

OK, that was a step in the right direction.

Hit Dice are OK. Rest are meh.

Its true that surges where tied up into various 4E things...but I think hit dice, and being careful about other sources of healing (even 4E allowed surge less healing, this was a bad thing), your good enough.
