Help? I just can't make up my mind...

More great suggestions...awesome.

I had been toying with the idea of swapping Int and Dex to get an 18 Dex...and going for a mix of ...

Fighter, Barbarian, Rogue ...we might eventually hit level 15, so I was thinking of an eventual build like.

Fighter 9, Barbarian 3, Rogue 3

The barbarian hit points make up for the rogue hit points, I get to move back to 30 ft movement (even in medium armor - though I'd probably go with light armor for the full dex bonus). I'd have dark vision, evasion and 2d6 sneak attack if I could use it.

For feats maybe...

Weapon Focus (Dwarven Waraxe)
Combat Expertise
Two Weapon Fighting
Oversized Two Weapon Fighting (Complete Adv)
Weapon Specialization
Sense Weakness (Draconomicon)
...and other feats that I can find to fit the theme, more of the TWF chain perhaps and more of the Weapon Specialization Chain, perhaps Improved Critical.

Stat improvements would go to Con and Str.

As to feats from 'other books'...I can get those, I just have to go through a moderate questing/training process. It's not going to be impossible, just going to come with a cost associated with it.

Of course, I still keep telling myself...swap int and dex, I'd make a killer Monk.

Oh...if I did go with the TWF Dwarf above, would it best to take my first level in Fighter?

Try something REALLY wierd, something nobody does anymore - straight up human fighter. No multiclassing. No prestige classes. Make a character that is interesting and fun for reasons OTHER than an intimidating stat block.

I don't care how awesome a stat block is...I won't play a character that isn't interesting and cool. If it was just about the combat...I'd stick to my computer games.

Good advice, thanks :)

Using Races of Eberron (RoE):

Kalashtar.

Soulknife
Feats: Soulblade warrior (RoE)

Racial substitution level (from RoE).

At least take the 1st level one. While it lowers your HD to a d8 it gives the ability to align your mindblade as a good weapon at 1st level and add Holy to the list of potential enhancements.

Warforged:

Fighter – using racial substitution levels (from RoE). While they remove normal fighter feats they increase HD to d12 and grant some pretty decent alternatives. 1st level – increased initiative and saves versus fear.

2nd level – chose any warforged feat instead of fighter feat.

Shifter.

Ranger

Use all substitution levels.

Barbarian/range – a very good combo for a shifter since rage and shifting effects stack.

Shifter druids are also pretty decent (again look at the racial substitution levels).

Shifter (beasthide) Ranger Monk.

Put the 18 in Dex, take Aesthetic Hunter, then when you can get it INA, and if possible get versatile Unarmed Strike (PHBII).

That way you've got an allround secrondary warrior/tracker/grappler/mean mo'fo.

As a shifter you'd get the +2 to dex (making it 20. SO your base AC would be around18, then up to 20 or 22 when shifting (get beasthide Elite). That's before your bracers of armour and rings of protection. Nice one Bruv.

Or make it a human ranger/monk and go Deneith marked (mage armour). That would be rather niffty too.

Ok, I made up my mind to go with the Dwarven TWF Fighter, Barbarian, Rogue I mentioned above. I picture him as a very serious dungeoneer.

I still have to work out details like which class to take my first level in (rogue for the skills, barbarian for the hit points and speed, fighter for the bonus feat).

And I need to figure out what feat to take at first level.

Thanks for all of your help and suggestions though, gave me a LOT to consider and more than a few character concepts for the future.

Swap Strength and Intelligence, go for pure half-orc barbarian with awesome Will save. You ROCK. Suggested feat chain: Power Attack, Cleave, Combat Expertise, Improved Trip. Maybe you want Lightning Reflexes in the beginning, maybe you want Track at the end. Have fun!

If you're gonna go the trip route, might as well get exotic weapon prof: spiked chain, and later combat reflexes. A power attacking, cleaving, tripping at range beast!

To me this is interesting and cool! It lets YOU make the character unique... keep the stats the way they are... a human fighter with an 18 int... you can style him out like the planner/leader type...

I seriously considered that actually, but with my current group's dynamics and the character selections of other players already, it's going to be helpful all around for me to be as melee effective as I can reasonably manage...as well as have a few helpful skills to throw around.
