Help! I've been REINCARNATED as a BEAR

There is also a weapon enchantment in Masters of the Wild called Opposable that allows a creature without proper hands to use the weapon normally. It's a +1 equivelent bonus. Similarly, there is an armor enchantment called Wild that allows armor to remain in effect while in any form, though it is effectively invisible, much more costly than the weapon enchantment (+3 bonus), and really meant more for your more bizarre forms (like an owl, not a semi-humanoid form like bear).

Re: Multiple attacks

Plus, as an 8th level character, I have two attacks (with the strength bonus, it's +13/+8).

The bear normally gets three attacks (two claw attacks, one bite). 8th level means an extra attack, so I'm assuming three claw attacks and one bite.

Then, there's the two weapon thing that Tom mentioned.

You do not aquire the extra attack of your new form. Again, need to pick up Masters of the Wild, it covers attacks as well.

Is your party wizard level 7+ and have poly other as a spell. Becasue he can always polymorph you back into yourself without penalty. And who knows your dm may ley the old you be considered the "yourself". Even if the Dm doesn't alloow that a no stat bonus human probaly would be better to play for your character than a high stat black bear.

Too bad it wasn't brown bear though, then at least you'd kick butt.

We thought about the polymorph other idea, but then you've got the constant checks on your abilities (you're a bear, but you've got the memories of a human and you're trying to act like one--you've got to be one confused creature).

I'm not sure I like this Masters of the Wild book. :p

How does that MotW idea square with this bit from the SRD on reincarnate: The reincarnated character does gain any powers or abilities associated with his new form, including forms of movement and speeds, natural armor, natural attacks, etc.

You get the natural attacks. But it doesn't change your NUMBER of attacks. If you could only make one attack per full round action before, you can still only make one attack per full round action in the new form (even if a normal bear could make three attacks in a full round action).

MotW gives druids who wildshape the natural attack routine of the creature they change into (claw/claw/bite for a bear).

Are you saying they don't allow it if you actually BECOME a black bear or other creature, Mistwell?

You gain the attacks. TWO CLAWS AND A BITE. This means you may attack once with each one, thus keeping you at 1 attack.

I think if you want armor its best to look at the rules for barding. There is no way your human-sized chain shirts fit. You might be able to get it remade or trade it for something that would fit.

No, there were long discussions on MotW after it came out. You gain the full attack routine of the animal in question. You don't gain your normal iterative attacks.

For a bear, this means claw/claw/bite (3 attacks) using the full attack action. If you normally have 4 attacks per round from your BAB, it doesn't apply.

Has there been a new ruling recently to change this?

That's how I remembered it too, though this may be an obvious comment if you had 4 attacks form bab you could choose to go claw, claw, claw, claw but at the 0,-5,10,-15 to your attack rolls rule form BAB. Where with the attack routine frequently it was 0,0,-2 for a claw, claw, bite routine.
