Ok, thread started in the rules forum.

Back on topic:
DR does not screw archers, IMHO it screws melee fighters. For an archer, it's not a big problem to have 10 adamant, 10 silver and 10 whatever arrows in his quiver additionally to his normal ammunition he uses with his +4 bow of bane all. But the fighter with his +5 axe of smashbaddies usually has to take his +1 silver dagger of punity if he encounters a DR20/silver monster.

Darklone - I'd say it depends on the level of DR? DR 10/X can totally ruin an archers day if he doesn't have X... Lets say X = Bludgeoning. All those little attacks bouncing off...

Whereas Mr Full Power Attack with 2 Hander barely notices the reduction?

I'd say the guys that get really screwed are 2 weapon and/or finesse fighters?

That is a good point. The archer does carry around several spares so I imagine that it would only be an inconvenience for him though. He might lose a turn or 2 replacing the sting but that would be about it.

Also, there you can cut a bowstring only so many times before it becomes tedious.

I'm pretty sure the entire bow gets the same HP. Otherwise you'd sunder the longswords pommel instead of the blade and other crap. Kind of the same idea behind not letting people stab each other's eyes out or say "I cut the guy's head off" with a standard melee attack.

I haven't read everyone ideas yet, just finished the first page, and I don't recall anyone talking about the staple ranged arcane spells.

How far back does the archer usually stand from the rest of the party? If it's withing 600 ft. - Fireball. If it's within 120 ft. - Lightning Bolt.

Another idea, Phalanx Fighting (Complete Warrior pg. 103). Also, Tower Shields, Swarmfighting (CWpg105).

I hope some of this helps, and hasn't already been suggested.

Fish,

Not sure I want to screw EVERYONE with that kind of DR. *thinks for a second* What am I saying?!! Of course I do! :D *evil*

I understand the point that you are trying to make but really, how many DR 20/silver monsters have you ever come across in a game. In my experience the archer in the party tends to do less damage per hit than the melee guys but hits more often. Therefore DR is likely to affect him more.
