Help with some maths...

I'm a bit fuzzy on the maths portion of this game so I'm seeking help from the experts here. :)

I'm trying to figure out what would come out with more average damage:

My Avenger with 2 Weapon Fighting and Opening, using a +3 Throwing Hammer and a +3 Craghammer, with its Brutal 2 quality

OR

My Avenger with 2 Weapon Fighting and Opening, using a +3 Throwing Hammer and a +3 Warhammer, with the Avenging Resolution Feat.

"Avenging Resolution
Heroic Tier

Prerequisite: Avenger, oath of enmity power
Benefit: When you attack a target of your oath of enmity with a weapon attack, treat all rolls of a 1 or 2 on the damage dice as though the result were a 3 on the die."

Both would be with Radiant Servant's 19-20 crit range.

I'm leaning towards the last, since the feat covers all damage dice, including my 2nd hammer, but sometimes eye-balling this stuff without the actual factuals to back it up can fool you.

Thanks!

1d10 Brutal 2 average damage is (3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10)/8

Avenging Resolution is (3+3+3++4+5+6+7+8+9+10)/10

Rest is a wash, it applies evenly to both. Whichever of the above is higher average, that one is better.

So 6.5 vs 5.8, Craghammer is better.

Doesn't account for off-hand weapon, improved weapons (never know what is gonna go down), or using a different superior weapon that does not have Brutal and Avenging Resolution.

Given the difference is so small (.7 per W), I don't think it'll be a big deal either way. And factoring it out exactly would involve your crit rate, chance the generated attacks would hit, and the average number of Ws you roll per encounter....

If you're not dead set on hammers use rending weapon Waraxe/offhand axe. With crit optimization this will deal more damage. Every crit spawns a MBA and a main crit an offhand crit with TWO.

Or go with Harmony Blade Bastard Sword (main) and Farbond Spellblade Bastard Sword (off). This would require MC Ranger. A main crit will give you an offhand MBA and an additional one with TWO.

Hammers are usually used by CON focused builds or if you have something that only works with hammers.

Okay, I think I get it.

If you hit with the Craghammer, its Brutal 2 property will (barely) out-average Avenging Resolution with a Warhammer.

If you crit though, then the Warhammer with Avenging Resolution will out-average the Craghammer. (because the Brutal 2 property won't apply to your 2nd weapon, whereas Avenging Resolution will).

As for Rending with Axe's - yeah, I looked at that. Unfortunately, I'm in a campaign where the DM maintains *very* strict control over what we are given or allowed to buy. I'm lucky to wind up with the 2 Hammers. :(

Thanks everyone! :)
