If you want to avoid the overhead of a psionic character or don't use psionics in your game you might also contemplate something like Rogue/Swashbuckler. That way your skills and fighting style dovetail nicely, while it's not a powerful gestalt it provides a decent bit of umph to a base rogue while keeping character overhead low.

Would you take the class if you couldn't use it's primary ability (spellcasting) for 4 levels?

Actually, yes I would. But maybe I'm wierd that way. :)
And the question is moot, as the OP is starting at 5th level anyway.

Not to mention the fact that the silent spell would have to be used on every spell with a verbal component which ends up costing the beguiler a bunch of power.

A +1 to the spell level is hardly "a bunch of power."

Increasing the required spell level by one for every single verbal spell is not a bunch of power? It's only not when there are no verbal spells, or unimportant ones. But, don't most of the spells require a verbal component?

I can think of an even bigger problem. Since the beguiler is a spontaneous spellcaster, every Silent spell would have to be cast as a full-round action. So, during combat he'd never be able to do anything when casting besides taking a 5 ft step.

Yep!

So it would require a second level spell slot and a full round action to cast a simple sleep spell :p No sir that wouldn't be a major power loss ;)

Since Sleep already has a casting time of 1 round, all you need is the second level slot. ;)

But I do see your point. The increased casting time hadn't occured to me.
