Alethia feels something shaking her, cajoling her to wake. You can't sleep, not yet! the voice in her head sounds frantic. You're safe, you're friend is safe. Now wake up!
She shakes her head, moaning as the motion sends blinding pain slashing through her brain. Her eyes creak open and she immediately shuts them. Even plain daylight seems painfully bright. Eyes closed is a good thing, she told the voice.
Don't fall asleep! You have a concusion on top of everything else. A bad one, the voice told her.
"Mffph." she managed, a hoarse croak. Head pounding, body hurting, stomach twisting in knots, it was a battle to stay conscious, forget coherent.
