Heroes of the Borderlands

D&D (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

So is Return to the Keep on the Borderlands. And this is Heroes of the Borderlands. You can have more than one adventure in the same location.
Lots of planets settings have a North Borderlands.

So long as it's considered a different adventure, and not a replacement that changes the past, sure.
It's all made up anyway. There's no "reality" to the Keep on the Borderlands. It's just a new scenario, and the old scenario can still be found for those who want it.

Then explain to me what you think retcons and/or remakes are.
I also believe RPG stuff is different from novels, movies, and the like, because all RPG stuff is fundamentally unfinished. It does not become "real" until it hits the table in a game, and then only for that particular campaign. Every published adventure or setting is something that might happen, not something that is set in stone.

(That's also one of the many reasons I dislike metaplot in my games.)

Well, not in 5e.
Goodman Games' version isn't available from their website anymore, but I bet you can still find it in other places.

Then why make it KotB, and not something else?

Also, I like metaplot. 2e's continuing lore is what kept me excited about the hobby.

You seriously think inventing new material is easier than removing existing material?

Sorry, I just don't buy it. This is just your preference.

You don't have to add much and in my opinion it's easier than removing much of the time. Of course it's just a preference, just like your preference.

In an infinite multiverse there are an infinite number of keeps on an infinite number of borderlands.

Then you shouldn’t care about the original adventure, since it had no metaplot, no continuing lore, and wasn’t 2nd edition.

Worst possible example as I6: Ravenloft, House of Strahd, Expedition to Castle Ravenloft and Curse of Strahd ALL have the same plot (rescue Ireena from Strahd). The events of the module matter so little to the Demiplane they are one note in the timeline. (The old timeline, btw).
There were other adventures, and all of them were part of the timeline too. I don't consider Ravenloft to only be about variations of I6.

I don't like remakes that change the core of the original. New adventures are better IMO than re-hashing the old.
