HiPS is a supernatural ability, but the almighty SRD says it's still a standard action to use.

It's Ex for Rangers and Su for Shadowdancers.

HIPS is a supernatural ability. That means using it is a standard action. It is a useful ability, but nowhere as game breaking as some picture it.

Like gnfnrf, I disagree. Hide in Plain Sight is simply hiding without needing cover & concealment. Since hiding as a skill already mentions what kind of actions are needed to use it, I think that covers the 'standard action unless otherwise noted' qualifier.
