I like the small gladius-like sword, in fact that was the kind of sword I had in mind. But not sure about the sword guard, it seems, to me, a bit out of place with the ornated hilt.

Perhaps if you just decreased the angle of the scepter and sword crossing each other, and increased the tilt of the crown?

ugh sorry. You know where we want to put it, don't you think it needs to be thinner? or the whole thing could be just smaller and have several of them on it.

It would depend on the layout approach you take, might work just as well when narrowed.. remember you are looking at a full sized image, not cropped or sized for the page or layout, but I will do a reworked version for you, I'm used to itterative art

I got carried away on the hilt.. I admit that.. but I was trying to repeat the draconic look of the sceptre, and I would have flourished out the crown more.

Did some pic browsing...looks like a good representation of a gladius to me.

Starting over is not a big issue, that's only a fifteen minute sketch and I knew it may not work.

Shhh! Never tell them that. Should always say it takes at least four times longer to do than it really does. Buys time and lets you really impress them when you do something quick.

So as it is not as wide, a little more similar to the angle of the scepter or sword.

But I LIKE the ornated hilt!
I only want a slightly more ornated/bigger guard to match the hilt.
oh, maybe I have once more a problem with my English :O When I say the hilt's guard I mean the protections for the hand at the end of the hilt.

Gladius had almost no hilt guard, but celtic short sword and viking short sword had guards. and they were either bigger or curved to the blade, never curved to the user hand, because then if ennemy blade hit it slipped eaily and cuts the user hand...

Part of what you may not favor would be the angle of the pommel does not match the rest of the hilt.. lines ended up wrong.. hmm..

Another way you could use it is as a background watermark.. it actually looks really good stretched out across an entire Letter sized page
