Evening, all. So what's gonna be the tagline for the new 3.51?

"Far too often, extraneous material tinkered onto the existing D&D campaign will quickly bring it down to a lower level at best, ruin it at worst."

:)

Hi Hivemind!

I preordered all three of the 3.5 books about two months ago from the FLGS for a special price... I've been hoping it'll come in early ever since!

Really? From what I've read I've actuially been happy wit hthe changes. So, what did you read that you didn't like?

It's not that I'm unhappy per-se, more that I don't know if they're big enough changes to warrant buying new books.. I'll probably do the SRD thing at first, read your copies.. you know:)

I need to get a better feel for the books before I adapt to them.. as I said last night, I probably won't be changing some of the spells.. like the buffs.. since our group never abused them. The class changes are probably going to work though.. especially the Bard and Ranger changes..

I plan on waiting a few months.. maybe buying the gift pack with the slipcase hoping it's a 2nd printing withthe first round of erratta in it..

Argh...I've been sitting here the last ten minutes thinking about what to do with my life...again. Don't mind me babbling at the Hive. :)
I need something more than a simple job most people my age get(I'm 17...argh, people are right about teenage years being horrible). Yeah, I've had them...its just. Not for me. I want to do art. I know I have at least some talent, its just...argh. I don't think I have the guts to try getting my stuff out ANYWHERE. I guess half the problem is being so critical of my own work...especially more recently. Blah. Okay, short mini-rant. I'm done. Thank you for letting me babble. :)

If you really want to improve your art you need to do a lot of it..

Also take the opportunity to diversify your personal work.. draw everything, make still lifes, draw models.. study anatomy and do lots of life drawing..

Art is more skill less talent.. it takes work and a persistant work ethic to be successful. At 17, now is the perfect time to develop those traits.

Yes, so I've been telling my hand...it just doesn't seem to want to cooperate at the moment. :D I've been trying to force myself to just keep drawing. I even have myself doing a weekly webcomic, which is absolute junk, but makes me have to draw something once a week at least.

Biggest problem I see is that I got used to to a certain style(manga and anime style to be exact) that is so different from others...its hard to get back. Its amazingly frustrating to 'change' style of art...but I think I can pull it off slowly at least.

Thanks for the advice. I definatly will keep it in mind. This is definatly my last year of a calm life, and after this...everything will get crazy, so its as good a time as ever.
:)

...side note...must say something about me that I turn to the Hive for advice. :D ;)

Well I remember being your age and being stuck in my rut.. comic book characters.. it's just something you have to try.. it's not comfortable at first.. and it's not usually very good either..

It's easy to shortcut your development as an artist by doing what is comfortable..

As for the Hive advice.. it's the perfect place to ask for it.. we're a diverse group of people with a common interest, and a love for opinions:) Not to mention there are quite a few creative people in here.
