Interesting that you should ask that. At least into the 1800's there were people who claimed that the different groups typically called 'races' were actually seperate species. Of course, we know today that this is not true (& shudder at the thought process behind the notion), but at that time & for those people, 'racism' was indeed conceived of as being based on seperate species.

Actually, a big Chinese general just gave a speech recently in which he made the claim that, essentially, the 'Yellow Race' (his term) is a different species from the rest of humanity- that they actually evolved separately and independently in China, while the rest came out of Africa.

Mind-boggling...

(Note: I don't want this to be seen as a political statement- I'm referring to a specific individual's opinions only, I don't think many others support him.)

Be nice to see a thread about D&D races one of these days that didn't inevitably devolve into folks going on and on about elven subraces.

OTOH, never did hear a head-count for dwarven subraces.

So, as I've always said, Dwarves really DO have as many, if not more(depending on what exactly one counts as a subrace) than Elves. Amazing that people always ignore this just to go after the Elves.

Everyone knows all dwarves look alike.

Clearly the elves have some sort of reproductive problem. Whenever they walk down the street, they cease being able to reproduce with their old species.

Thus, when elves go in the woods they become Wood Elves.
When they go for a swim, Aquatic Elves.
Go out for a nosh, Sandwich Elves.
Take the wrong turn, Homeless Elves.
Live close to their job but in an area with lower crime, Suburb Elves.
Make cookies, Keebler Elves.

Two notes:

1) How the heck is quoting what another guy said about his theory of genetics political at all?

2) It is a sad state of affairs when people have to attach disclaimers to their posts like this.

Yes, but at least they don't turn into something else when they go to sleep. See Dream Dwarves. That, and Dwarves seem to change colours and then become something else.

Well, you apparently forgot Elf #12, my favorite type of Elf: Dead. :)

There ain't no Elf as good as a dead Elf.

Oh, now you're just mixing up games. Deodanths were a character race from the original Arduin Grimoires.
