2005 LX Special Edition

IIRC, the LX doesn't have ABS right? That's the main reason why I think the EX is worth the extra money.

What's the SE add? I know there is a DX SE but I haven't heard of the LX SE.

The biggest advice I can give (in general) is to go to a dealership to look. If you walk into the place with the intent of buying the car, you're never going to get a good deal. Be prepared to walk away - you have a car to drive, now, and you can afford to look around for a good deal. You'll be surprised how fast the price of a car drops when you're leaving...

I definitely don't agree with this. If you are ready to buy, the best thing you can do is to hit THEM with an offer before any sort of negotiating starts. If they know you are serious about buying a car right then and there, they'll listen, trust me.

If you are just looking, fine, no problem at all. The worst thing you can do is to be wishy-washy when you go to a dealership. Go to look or go to buy.

The special edition does have ABS and EBD. And it's 2k cheaper than the EX. If you're going to get an EX, you might as well go all out and get a hybrid. We saved about $4000 this way.

Interesting. That must be new for 05 because that wasn't an option for the 04's. ABS is a must-have IMO. The only other things the EX has are a moonroof and alloy wheels IIRC. Good choice.

The LX special has alloy wheels too. The only thing we're really missing out on is the moon roof.

Xath - congrats on getting a new car and a great deal!

That is one of the oddest reasons I've ever heard of for buying a car. :uhoh:
It wasn't why I bought the car, it made the final difference between the two choices I had narrowed it down to. I had done my homework and looked at what I wanted, what I needed, what I could afford, what I wanted to pay, prices, discounts, reliability, Consumer Reports ratings, test drives, how I felt about the dealers, the whole deal. But when it came down to the choosing between the final two, I figured being loyal to my favorite F1 team was better than a coin flip. I wasn't like I was a fan of Michael Schumacher so I decided to buy a Ferrari.

And in the end, is it any worse than buying a car you think is cool, or a car that you think makes you look good, or one that establishes your status? How many people really need those expensive SUVs and pickup trucks? How many SUVs never leave pavement, how many pickups never really haul anything, does anyone really need a sports car or a luxury car? I bought a car I liked and wanted and could afford, is that really that different than the reasons anyone else buys a specific car?

Want another one? I prefer to shop at Lowes instead of Home Depot (both are within the same shopping area only a couple hundred yards apart) because I like Jimmy Johnson more than I like Tony Stewart. I can't say I've had different experiences in either store, or like either store better, so I make my shopping choice based upon a racing driver preference.

Well, I guess people could have stranger reasons for the purchases they make. At least you own up to yours. :)

Well, we havn't actually gotten the car yet because the bank is being a poo-head. They were supposed to let us know by this morning, but we had to call them several times and now they say the earliest they'll know is Tuesday.

Wish us luck.
