"hope of joining a current edition" From the OP of that thread about 5e.

If you prefer something else why to nurture such a hope?

Fear of lack of support? How much support do you really need?
There are thousands of modules out there you could modify for your needs.

Lack of players? Current situation shows that it is as much easy to find players for the last edition as for the previous one(s).

So what is the problem here? Your thoughts about this.

Could be some are worried about lack of players, sure. But, like you, I doubt that that is a usually a problem in reality.

Most often, it's probably that habit, where people feel as though they should keep up with the latest um, thing. Whatever that tendency is called. . . :hmm:

Can't say I sympathise, really. But each to their own. It's not like I'll try and stop them doing so, or anything quite so dire. I simply don't understand the appeal, and will not adopt that particular habit, thank you very much. :)

As far as I'm concerned, books (or other things) don't suddenly stop working when a new book (or other thing) comes along and gets marketed at me, or at the first world in general, no matter how much money is behind it. I just. Don't. Care.

But as for (some of) the people referred to in the OP, well, their mileage may vary.
