how close to the rules do you play? poll #2(hit points)

how do you use hit points?

  • word for word what it says in the book

    Votes: 71 74.7%
  • just like the book except for how i deal with death and disability

    Votes: 16 16.8%
  • i use vp/wp

    Votes: 0 0.0%
  • other, please explain

    Votes: 8 8.4%

The rules are right but the history it is more important : If i need to change a rule i do it, but i speak with my players before do it. If they think that it is a bad change, i don´t do it.
Examples.

I dislike a lot the flying warriors, roges, paladins and so on. Only Wizards and sorceder can do it.Fly spell for the other class it is like a jump, levitation and feather fall in only one spell.
And now i want to change cleric turn undead. They can only turn/rebuke if have Good, evil or dead dominion.

Excuse my unrules english

We keep fairly close to the HP rules, since that is the way of keeping score, but sometimes we fudge on staying upright, etc.

We also use -Con, rather than -10, for death.

This might sound strange but healing party members with spells is simply just an exercise in rolling d8s. For our swashbuckling game we came to the conclusion that this exercise was not entertaining and moreover we realised that we'd never miss the cleric if it went away. So we instituted a new rule that says that all combattants on the winning side of a battle are automatically restored to their full hit points after the fight. It saves us some time which can be put to better use role-playing. :)

I play it right out of the book, though I may try using the critical hit system presented by Bastion Press in Torn Asunder. Other than that, I'm also interested in substituting VP/WP for HP in D20 Modern to see how it affects game play.

well in my booklets 0 hp = death.

but after the 1edADnD rules started getting more use in the campaign, we added the upto -10hp rule.

IMC, everyone gets an initial racial HP bonus based on type & size, and all levels HP get rolled -- including first.

For rolling HP, you can take what you rolled or what the DM rolled (sight unseen), which leads to somewhat larger than average HP totals. We also play that you aren't dead until your HP = -(Con).

When I DM, I make up for that leniency by being a complete bastard. It seems to all balance out. ;)
