I am very hopeful, but 4e is not starting out as well as 3e did.

Gleemax is already stinking.

Dragon and Dungeon may have fallen into the abyss in a permanent sense.

I think that WotC is overreaching and wasting their assets. They need a handful of high quality venues and drop the rest. They make nice inexpensive miniatures and dungeon tiles. Developing an interactive tabletop is going to be ugly in the beginning with too many growing pains.

They should stick to terrain and miniatures, splatbooks and settings, and come up with some monthly publications to support their game.

If DDI is important to the people in control, then 4e is screwed.

Im doing this poll to see where the people are regarding 4e. Mostly out of curiosity.
I think you forgot: "I wasn't excited about 4e at first but with what I've seen will be switching."

WTF? This poll is wack.

The only pro-4e option on the poll is "I was going to go to the new edition no matter what." How about just an option for non-zombies? "Since I like what I've seen, I'll be playing 4e."

I'm buying the core 4E to mine for ideas. I'm sticking with 3.5 as the base rules for my games. I've got just too much invested in 3.X, much of it yet to be used, to just dump it. (I'll also get Pathfinder for the same mining opportunities).

I don't get it, why would anyone be upset with 4E? It's not like 3x, 2E or A/OD&D will explode off the shelves on the 6th like some old Mission Impossible opening scene. The reality is that you can play whatever you like. Many will chose 4E, some will not. I don't hate on the 3x'ers nor on the 4E fanatics. Why keep polling?

I agree with the need to avoid hate, but people involved with 3.x now are reasonably upset about 4th edition, not because it makes 3.x explode or vanish, but because it is likely/certain that resources that would have continued to work on cool new stuff for 3.0/3.5 will now be used on 4th edition...I would imagine SOME anger is also due to the 'product line'-level whammy in the GSL, which means that resources that create a product for 4th edition are actually PROHIBITED from converting it for OGL stuff....so not only are resources pulled from the game they love, but WOTC has put a barricade in the way of those who would devote resources to both.

This poll does not have an option that expresses my feelings. I am excited to play 4e, but I have spent months looking into it... stopped playing 3.5e shortly after it came out, and although I have always loved D&D (since 1e) it was by no means a sure thing that I would come back....4e is marketed directly to me, so I am in.

This poll is stupid, and insulting. The only 4E option is, "I'm a lemming."

Where is, "I was excited about 4E, and from what I've seen so far I'm still/more excited about 4E."?

I chose the next to last one (not interested in D&D before 4th edition). I have not played in an organized campaign of D&D for a long time. In fact, I'm not sure that I ever have. I've played and messaged around with D&D since I was about 5 in 1980 or so. I have the 3.0 books and played some when the edition came out, but not on any sort of regular schedule. Then, life got busy around the time that 3.5 came out and I never purchased any of those materials (other than the Ebberon core book). At this point, I haven't played D&D for a number of years.

Despite this, I was in the habit of checking this site regularly, but I wasn't really interested in joining a regular 3.x group. From the books that I scanned at my local bookstore, it just seemed like that edition was bogged down in not very useful suplemental materials and had kind of stagnated. I mean how many new prestige class / feat based supplements does a person need. So, I wasn't really excited about it at all. I guess I was interested in the game and the health of the game, but not interested in playing regularly. I would still crack open one of my old books sometimes before bed and read a few paragraphs just for fun.

Then, I found out the new edition and I got kind of interested. The more I found out about this edition, the more I realized that serious effort had been put into trying to fix some of the problems with 3.x, plus just generally making it a more fun game. So, now I can say that I am officially stoked about 4th edition. I'm finally ready to play again on a regular basis and I've been counting down the days.

So, at least in my situation, 4th edition has, thus far, been a marketing winner on the part of WOTC. Not sure if I'm unique though or if I'm pretty typical. I'm guessing there are a lot of folks like me... kind of lapsed players who just need a nudge to get back into the hobby.
