How do you recharge your gaming battery?

My gaming battery has never died but when it gets low I can recharge it by gaming, reading some fantasy books, watch any of the LOTR movies and just reading this site.

My preferred method is a three day bender and orgy. But, those aren't always easy to come by.

So, realistically, I play a lot of Nintendo/PS type video games and/or spend a week or so where my only project is to play with my kids.

I agree with reading, watching movies and playing videogames, but I also like to indulge in other activities or hobbies that have nothing to do with gaming or scifi/fantasy - like painting or doing yoga. Meditation really helps clear out my head. Also, just getting together with friends for a couple of hours to go to dinner or hang out helps me a lot, too.

I find that when I overwork I cut out exercise and skimp on sleep and it has a definite impact on me. I feel much better after getting in a run, doing my nightly yoga, etc. Also having regular days where you are not working even though you could be helps. For me as I take home work on the weekend saying its Saturday and not touching any of it gives me an actual break from the grind even if I do work stuff on Friday and Sunday nights.

so Swimming, fishing, or anything to do with water. Relax and spend time with friends who dont game. Let them tell you some stories of their life and see if you can get ideas from them

Don't do for a while. Just Be.

I've found that a quiet place helps. If you can get that at home, great. If not, I've found that an art museum or a library provides a good atmosphere. Then let yourself out of the bag. Ask yourself what interests you, then explore that a little bit. Scribble nonsense in a notebook. Read about Roman economics. Stare at a pointilist painting for an hour.

Be aware of whatever surrounds you. Inspiration is everywhere...

Wander around art galleries, preferably in far-off lands.

Engage in a "low work" form of gaming - play for a while, run an adventure out of Dungeon, or play on the PC/X-Box/PS2.

I force myself to take a day off.

Seriously. No gaming, no writing, no layout, no game-related fora, no email....nada. Just go do something else.

I find that by the end of the day, I'm actually looking forward to getting back into it.
