D&D 5E How do you use maps with room numbers?

Alternately...

You could describe each room as having a huge number carved into the floor by the buliders of the dungeon!

An idea with a refreshingly whimsical, old-school character probably best used once, but an idea I would use. Thanks.

Edit: I like the idea of PCs unexpectedly encountering room "12b".

Have a linear dungeon with room numbers displayed, and on the next-to-last room skip a number. Enjoy watching the metagamers go nuts trying to find a non-existent room.

If any of the players ask what the numbers in the room mean, just start singing "The Final Countdown" by Europe. Don't actually answer the question, just sing the song.

Hey players, didn't have time to make a blank map. Ignore the room numbers unless you telling me you are going to that room. IF you look for a missing room number. The hand of gawd will squish your pc's head off.
