No. It just gimps them to allow natural selection (aka death by kobold) to happen. It delays the inevitable. At least its not like the old Traveller game where you could die during character gen.

I do, however, now have a lawn to tell people to get off of.One thing I haven't noticed anyone else say is that in older editions of D&D the sessions were a lot longer. It was also a lot easier to gather players. Newer editions for some inconceivable reason include careers, babies, and getting really tired at 10:00 pm.
Also in older editions I used to be able to eat as much pizza as I wanted without gaining weight.
Also I had more hair in older editions.
Hm, I must have missed that in the rules. Do you need to take a feat for it?I do, however, now have a lawn to tell people to get off of.
No, it was a benefit of name level of the Adulting character class.Hm, I must have missed that in the rules. Do you need to take a feat for it?
Nah man, random chance. Roll for race and class. You have an 18 int and rolled a cleric? You're a darn smart cleric? Rolled an illegal combo? Start over. It’s not incongruous. You’re assuming. You shouldn’t pick race. Roll it. Same with occupation/background. But sure, pick your class. If you want to play a weak fighter or a dumb wizard, go for it.
If you like. You're the one saying you don't want randomness and chance to come into a game that revolves around randomness and chance.Nah man, random chance. Roll for race and class. You have an 18 int and rolled a cleric? You're a darn smart cleric? Rolled an illegal combo? Start over.
Nobody is stopping you from rolling Barney Fife. Folks are just done with being forced to.If you like. You're the one saying you don't want randomness and chance to come into a game that revolves around randomness and chance.
There's a difference between chance in play, and chance in creation, where a good or bad roll on a stat has a disproportionate weight to any individual roll afterwards in play.If you like.
