How long are your gaming sessions?

This was sparked by Henry's post about that 3e AD&D is geared towards four hour gaming sessions. I don't know if thats the case. I've been playing for 10 years now, and we won't even try to game if we can't get a good 6+ hour chunk of quality time. How long do the rest of you game?

We game 2 ways: online and live

Online sessions can last between 6 and 8 hours.

Live sessions last between 16 and 20 hours if not longer.

My group does the four-hour session thing. Half of us have children, which really eats up your weekends, so we game on Friday night after work. We start at 8 p.m., and after about 4 hours we're ready to call it quits just because most of us have been up since 6 a.m. or earlier. We used to start at 7 a lot, but that seems to have fallen out of favor. I'd like to play the extra hour, but I understand that some people need the time to get home, have dinner with family, and then get to the gaming site.

I've got three groups at the moment - Wednesday night, Sunday afternoon, and Sunday evening.

Wednesday night is typically about 7:00-10;30. People need to travel to the game from out of town, and leave in time to be home and take care of kids and such. This keeps us pretty strictly limited to those times.

Sunday afternoon is 12:30-3:30.

Sunday evening is 7:00-11:00.

IMO, the best length for a live session is about five hours, and four for an online game. Shorter than that, and you don't get into it enough. Any longer, and it starts to wear on you.

Last session was 13 hours, which trashed my sunday, so that won't happen again. Ah sweet youth, when I was younger we gamed from 11:00 Am to 1:00 am every Sunday, without fail for years.... miss those days sometimes... of course if that were the case now characters would go from 1st to Epic level in less than a year.

I run a D&D game every Saturday that starts at 5pm and usually ends around 3am. At this pace it takes us about a year to go from 1st level to Epic. Once we finish the current campaign we are going to alternate between D&D and M&M or D&D and D20M.

4 to 6 hours depending on when we start and how much gaming we can stand

We usually get about 4 hours of D&D (1 hour is wasted yakking)

We managed closer to 6 with Buffy
