How many monster books do you have?

How many monster books do you have? I only have the Monster Manual and while I find it insufficient, I mostly make a new monster up. I'm tempted by the Creature Catalogs but haven't found enough reason to buy them. I don't think I'd use more than two or three of the monsters from any other books.

I only have the monster manual. It has about twice the number of creatures I'll ever need.

The exception is when I need a conversion of a Planescape monster. If a book with all Planescape creatures converted was published, I'd buy it.

That's it.

Well, that depends on how you count:

I have MM, Monsters of Faerûn, Creature Catalogue I & II. so that is 4.

But then PsiHB contains a few psionic monsters, and MotP contains a few Planar monsters, RttToEE contains one or two.

Mostly I just use stuff from MM. Wouldn't really recommend grabbing much else unless you are really strapped for ideas.

Monster Manual
Creature Collection
Creature Collection II
Monsters of Faerun
Legions of Hell
...And assorted monsters in other books

I have the MM, CC2 kindly sent me by Upper_Krust, and recently bought CC1 to complement it, and because the PCs are reaching the levels where I dare to use Sword & Sorcery Studios critters on them. I also have the MoTP with its monsters.

This has mostly been enough, although when I wanted to use Quaggoths I had to find stats on the Internet for them, they ought to have been in the MM. Also there are 'chaos spawn/chaos beastmen' in my game I've had to invent stats for, as well as various riding animals, giant lizards, etc.

I have the Monster Manual, both the Creature Collections, Monsters of Faerun, both volumes of GR's "Book of Fiends," Creatures of Rokugan and of course there's a substantial number of monster entries in books like Manual of the Planes, Psionics Handbook and Oriental Adventures. I also have the Creature Catalog on PDF back from a time when they were offering it as a download - I'm not sure if they still are or not.

I'd still want to pick up the Liber Beastarius from Eden Studios and the Monstronomicon from Privateer Press and probably Monster Manual II. I'd also want to pick up the Epic Level Handbook primarily for the monsters, although that's not quite as critical a want for me right now.

I guess I'm kind of a monster book junkie. ;)

I've got Monster Manual, Monsters of Faerûn, Legions of Hell, and Creatures of Rokugan. I'll buy Armies of the Abyss soon and Monster Manual 2 as soon as it becomes available - and probably Tome of Horrors as well...

Salutations,

I own the Monster Manual, Creature Collection, and Creature Collection II.

The latter two have seen less use then the first, but they have both provided ideas for adventures- they were worth the investment.

I will be picking up the Monsternomicon and Liber Beastarius whenever they appear at my LGS or Talon Comics ever updates his website.

Respectfully submitted
FD

Edit: Oops, I own Jade Dragons & Hungry Ghosts and Creatures of Rokugan as well. Neither has seen much use, but when my campeign picks up- the orient lands will possibly be in their near future travels. They both have given me good ideas for adventures.

I think Armies of the Abyss is a great complement to Legions of Hell but you can't expect it to be exactly the same as the focus is somewhat different.

LoH is, with the exception of a few pages at the beginning and end of the book, a monster catalogue. True, the monsters have a lot of plot hooks inherent in them, but that's really all it is. AotA is a more ambitious product in a lot of ways: it features a new way of casting divine spells (sorta, the differences are more roleplaying rather than mechanical), new domains, a new core class that gets divine spells from calling on demon princes and has a lot more world-building stuff. What were they calling it in the other thread? Flunch? Adaptable fluff? Because of this, even though the book is bigger, it has less creatures in it.

However, the creatures it does have are just as interesting, and the "adaptable fluff" is so chock full of potential plot hooks that you almost can't touch it without getting your fingers snagged.

I think I've reviewed both of them on the reviews page, actually. I know Psion and a few others have reviewed both, so you can also see how they compared the two to each other.
