How many monster books do you have?

For 1e, both Monster Manuals, but not the Fiend Folio.

For 2e, just about every monster book TSR put out.

For 3e, just the Monster Manual and Monsters of Faerun. I plan on getting MM2 and Tome of Horrors when they come out. I've been meaning to pick up Legions of Hell, Armies of The Abyss, and Creatures of Rokugan but haven't yet.

Scott,

The only ones I can think of that you have missed for 3e are e-minions the pdf, the new eden liber bestarius and the 2 nightmare and dreams MEG monster books. I think later this year there will be the Iron kingdoms Monsternomicon and Penumbra's bestiary (and MMII).

I'm still staggered at the thought of a gaming room containing that collection you listed.

Well, on one hand... if I never buy another monster book in my life, I still would probably never want for another one.

That said, you just know that ToH and MMII are on my shopping list.

It's this type of thinking that keeps the gaming market alive. :)

Monster Mash!

So uh... Scott/Grazzt... what are your favourite monstrous things? What monster did you look at that was so totally original it blew your mind?

Yeppers- havent gotten those yet. I also don't have the FFE book Demons and Devils. I looked at it, but was disappointed with it (too many mistakes, errors, mechanical errors, and just generally useless stuff in there).

Yeah- my gaming room is uh..interesting. Those listed above were just monster books and sources. In addition to that I have all the 1e books, modules, accessories. Same for 2e, except for some FR stuff and Planescape stuff. For 3e I have all the WotC books, modules, and splat books, all of Necromancer Games and S&S stuff, and a lot of other stuff from several other companies.

Monster Manual
Creature Collections I and II
Monsters of Faerun
Creatures of Rokugan
Legions of Hell
Encyclopedia of Demons & Devils (this is of no use to me, but my husband bought it for me, so I give it space on the shelf)

And all of the various monsters sprinkled through other D20 products. Most frequently I use the Monster Manual and Creature Collection II. I've probably got enough monsters to last a lifetime, but I'll purchase MM2 when it comes out, and probably Tome of Horrors too, since I generally like the stuff that Necromancer puts out.

My 3e books devoted solely to creatures are:

Monster Manual 1
Creatures Collection 1
Creatures Collection 2
Legions of Hell
Armies of the Abyss
Legions of Hell
Nightmares & Dreams 1
Creatures of Rogukan
Monsters of Faerun

My favorite monstrous things are insects, vermin, cold-dwelling monsters, and demons (my campaign centers around the struggle of Law vs Chaos more than good vs evil and has a touch of Moorcock, Norton, and Tanith Lee).

Original monster that totally blew my mind? Tough question actually. There are several monsters (for 3e) that impressed me. I like a lot of the stuff in Creature Collection II (howling abomination, time killer, and Conundrum template come to mind). CC II is more mechanically sound than the first one, but I did like Creature Collection I (speaking of, as a side note, when the reprint for Creature Collection I comes out, be sure and check it out...all the mechanical errors have been fixed. Just can't remember who did the rewrites for it ;))

Templates are very cool. You can add a template to just about anything and make a "new" monster. For example, a few weeks ago in my campaign the PCs encountered a Fiendish Minotaur (doesnt sound impressive I know, but check the Necromancer Games "Tome of Horrors" forum for the results of that encounter and its stats).

Lessee....

MM, LoH, AoA, Jade Dragons, CC, CC2...

I am eager to get: Tome of Horrors, MMII, and the Penumbra Bestiary.

I've got 11 monsters showing up in the Penumbra Bestiary (Atlas Games), and I'm interested in seeing what other monsters are in it. Atlas wanted to include a lot of creatures from real world myths and legends that haven't typically been mined for monsters, and that sort of thing appeals to me. I myself threw in some Australian beasties. I'm hoping there are some Indian creatures in there...

Any idea when the reprint will be coming out?
