How many would be interested in this kind of d20 supplement ...?

I am working on a d20 (dungeons and dragons 3.5) suplement book to be published in accordance with the WotC OGL. It is essentially a Monster Manual concerned with one specific terrain type and will include background information for the area (brief history, myths, legends, etc) as well as unique spells, artifacts, and items. I don't want to give too much away since its still in the works but I will say that it should work well in any d20 fantasy campaign. It is intended to be a source of adventures/campaigns but providing only the setting, creatures, and treasure ... not the actual storyline. So DMs could use it for a quick get-together game or to design a lengthy campaign.

Now here is the question. How many of you would be likely to buy something like that? (full color illustrations, roughly 30 creatures with as many spells and magic items, and a sample scenario complete with maps). AND how may of you would be willing to do some play-testing before it goes to press?

At this point Im not trying to sell anything to anyone ... just gauging interest. I will still do it because I love the process, but I would like to know how to sell it and where to find my market. You can find some samples of my work on my sites (listed below in my signature) to get an idea of the quality of work that will go into the book. Thanks for any feedback.

I think the product you described is similar to the E.N. Critters line. If you want to gauge interest, you should find out how well sales are doing for those products.

Thanks for the info. I am not familiar with all of the third-party publishers involved in d20 publications. I have seen Malhavoc's stuff and some Green Ronin as well. Who is E.N. ?

Thanks ... I should have figured out that EN World would have something to do with EN publishing. Cool stuff ... although the "Critters" books do not seem to be exactly what I am talking about. I will look at the "Into The ... " series mentioned but I guess I have my answer. There is definitely a market for d20 supplements like the one Im doing. Now I just have to finish the first and see how it goes. Thanks all.

I have over 5,000 different monsters to throw at my party. This doesn't count modifiying creatures with templates, class levels, etc. I've got easily 12-20 critters for the common locations for campaigns (temperate zones, warm zones, non-aquatic...).

I love monster books, but I'm going to be EXTREMELY cautious giving out my gaming dollar for something that I've seen before. I like the idea, but if your creatures don't distinguish themselves (which, IMHO, is a failing of the Ruins of the Pale Jungle), I've got little use for it. I have monsters. You're going to have to give me something more to sell me.

Thanks all

I appreciate all of the advice. I took Mr Lajoie's advice and have emailed him with details.

GNSkarka - sorry for the confusion. I'm just very busy so I tend to throw out quick comments and don't have time to explain until later. I meant that it seems that there are a lot of publishers offering d20 supplements which would indicate that there are people out there interested in such things. I am confident that mine will at least offer competitive artwork and content. So (since I will not be investing in publishing costs and will offer the book through cafepress) I will move forward with my plan to release the work as intended.

Kamikaze Midget - when my site reformat is completed the gallery section will include a few sample creatures from the book complete with content (stats, background, etc). So you will know what you are getting up-front without spending a dime.

Anyway thanks for the help all. I really do appreciate feedback.
