How to hide your alignment and get chicks.

Iron Captain

Ok so I don't really wanna know about the chicks part.

But how does the Chaotic Evil Traitor keep his alignment hidden from the pesky Cleric and Paladin?

Undetectable alignment seems to be a must, but are there any other methods?

Reason why this came up in sblock because it contains SPOILERS about Keep on the Borderlands.

[sblock]In Keep on the borderlands the priest in the private room is chaotic evil so I started thinking about how he would hide this[/sblock]

A ring of Mind Shielding seems a good start.

Mind Shielding
This ring is usually of fine workmanship and wrought from heavy gold. The wearer is continually immune to detect thoughts, discern lies, and any attempt to magically discern her alignment.

Faint aburation; CL 3rd; Forge Ring, nondetection; Price 8,000 gp.

In our campaign it's generally not socialably exceptable to cast such spells, and also alignment doesn't prove guilt or motivation. It is also isn't admissable evidence in court or anything like that as the person casting the spell could lie about the results.

It's prefectly exceptable for someone to be CE just because they are selfish and greedy, they don't need to by psychotic killers or traitors.

Of course if the cleric is masquerading as a priest of a LG god he'd have some explaining to do, so Mind Shielding would be one way to go.

I housed ruled for one campain that the top line in the chart for detect alignment was not there. Basicly you only detected as an alignment if you had an aura(like being undead or an outsider), also if you were a cleric of an evil god. It made the game world have a real grey feel to it, because I had CE metalic dragons and NG dragons of color(Is that the politicaly correct term). In balance made alignment damage mods from DMG +1 and did 2d4 damage instead of +2 and 2d6. Know this it not nessesary helpful to you but if campain is new then tell players upfront and it should be ok.

I have not read this module, but one of my favorite modules is the WitchFire trilogy and the way they get around the detect spells on their main advesary for most of the trilogy is that she is not evil just crazy, I think her alignment was true neutral and she just had her own motivations wich differ from the party(like raising an undead army and trying to take over a city).

I believe these spells offer a Will save to resist. Of course, if you're a class that doesn't have a good will save, that could be a problem. One house rule I like is allowing someone to use their bluff skill in place of a will save to "fool" these spells.

That's immaterial, though. The saving throw is for the subject of the spell, which is to say the person or object whose alignment is being hidden.

My bad. I was reading "Creature or Object" as being what you can misdirect to as well as what you can target. Maybe someone has an aligned object to which you can misdirect, like an intelligent sword or something.

An intelligent sword is considered a construct, hence a creature, hence not an object.

You're after a non-intelligent Holy sword (which is good-aligned and an object); remember, the negative level only applies if you're wielding it, so just carrying it around is fine.

Although a Holy dagger would be easier to hide :)
