How would a Demon Queen defend her palace?

Make sure you put some anti-magic areas. They will inconvenience the PC's, and perhaps disable any of their defenses against (non-magical) poisons and drugs.

True-seeing is often a problem. Cover up various symbols with figments- they are not harmful unless someone is looking through them, and whammo! Instead of bodaks you can use things like medusae. Pretty women who turn men to stone- that might fit the queen of lust theme.

Also, the Demon Queen in question is Queen of lust

Which reminds me of the Original AD&D (2nd Edition) Guide to Carnal Knowledge, edited by the unknown Desmond Ried. A fiendish lord was described inside as the queen of lust, and the only thing I can remember of right now is an immense hallway lined with statues on pedastels of perfectly beautiful specimans covered in gold and in tantalizing, painful to keep in, positions. Concious, yet frozen.

Back to my paper. I'm late!

Not sure what it takes to be a rat bastard...

I've known a few, so I can only imagine.

Here's a couple of ideas from 20th level challenges I've run before:

1) Demons that can only be damaged by "blessed" weapons (as in the spell Bless or Hallow or Holy weapon type. Make their DR apply to all other types of weapons. Makes things fun and interesting.

2) Advance large creatures (like Giants, Rakshassas, Beholders, etc.) These make for fun "guardians."

Good luck with your adventure!

Why just traps?

You stated that demons are immune to electricity, and therefore there should be many electrical traps. But why just traps? If you were immune to a substance, you could simply fill a whole room - or a whole fortress - with it.

I ran an adventure where a red dragon had prepped the floor of his stone lair with a flammable tar. When he used his breath weapon, the whole lair went up in flames. He was perfectly content to wander around the burning lair, eating PCs while their own flesh began to char and smoke.

If the demon queen is immune to electricity, you could make her throne room filled with lightning and electricity. If you were feeling particularly RBDM-y, you could "up the voltage" on the electricity to overcome even a very high amount of elemental reduction.

Heck, maybe she likes it. If she's the demon queen of lust, maybe the electricity is a tangible expression of her power. Maybe she loves the tingle of the lightning caressing her skin. Maybe she bathes in it. Maybe she cackles in glee when souls that aren't immune to electricity are brought to her and are consumed by the constant strokes of lightning.

At that point, the PCs have to come to her. She can sit back and enjoy the crackle of blue sparks running over her skin while the PCs take constant damage just from being in her presence.

At least, that's what I'd do.

Don't forget the mode. The threat of physical punnishment should be secondary here. Your players have crossed the borders of reality and have entered a place older than the creation of their world (Hey. It sounds cool :D). This place exsist on the brink of insanity. Here they feel small and insignificant. The queen they are facing is only a small part of a much larger much more terrifying truth. They realize that now.

Here exist smells they have never before smelled, shadows that don't act normally. Sounds that seem to be comming from the walls or are they in their heads? Could it be that they only truely exist here because of their souls. And that their minds have difficulties comprehending this?

It is a tale of what have been and a forwarning of what will become again. That they now 'know' is true. If they find a window the horison will seem endless. Or is it just still because they cannot comprehend what they see?

Nothing seems certain anymore. Can they still trust their skills here? Can they really do this? This was certainly not what they had expected. They start being afraid (It's the nature of the place ;)).

Maybe the'll encounter living furnitures that have been made from mortals using fleshshaping magic. Still with their minds and memories intact... More or less.

Try and use advanced HD or character levels on some of the demons they encounter. That will help them get the feeling of being in truble if they have encountered that type of demon before.

I think it have been mentioned by others but if you stick with the idea about disorted physical distance you could try these:

-What about hallways that seems endless (You keep walking) even though you can see the door up ahead (The trick will be that you have to walk backwards. Your senses fool your here remember? :) - ).

-A door in a hallway that leed into another hallway that is infact the same hallway just half a mile up.

Maybe any "Good" related spells will have a -2 on their effective spell level.

Have them encounter a section of rooms where the men and/or women of their fantasies exist. Let them realise that these men/women are endeed good willed. They only wan't the heroes to stay for a moment. The may explain that the demon queen have taken then from the realm of dreams to use against the heroes but that they found them before anything happened. This will be their only chance to be together for real. And they beg the heroes to accept because that is the only purpose of their existence. They are after all the creation of the heroes. (If the heroes chose to stay with the dreamspirits they will slowly starve to death. What will seem like 10 min. Will actually be a day. The heroes will not know this before they try to leave the rooms- Or maybe they will infact be demons playing with their newfound toys)

carpedavid and Bonedagger you guys should head over here:

And fill out an application, I like your suggestions quite a bit and will probably use some of the ideas you present.

Imagine the horror the PCs will feel when every room and passageway in the palace erupts in a web of slowly dancing electricity. Kind of like those orbs that when you put your hand on them the webs of electricity move to your fingers and make pretty colors that dance on the inside of the orb.

Nice hot baths filled with poison. (demons are immune to poison)
Goblets of differing scents, some nice, some not. Demons might have used poison as wine.

Demons are also cold, fire and electricity resist 20.

Some areas are designated cold, or fire or electricity, with damage of shocking grasp of 1d8+10 per round. use this as a field. Demons walk through without a problem, everyone else take damage.

Have iron golems work within the fire field and have instant regenerating defenders.
