HQ: The 'Ready Lounge'

Gauntlet politely ignores Maddy's snide comments, then blinks under the barrage of technical questions Maria fires at him.

"Ahem. I am not knowing all the details about how I work... I have some ability to fix things but... I did not making myself... this way..."

Gauntlet's face falls somewhat as the memories of his unwilling transformation wash over him briefly. He recovers quickly but seems a bit more reserved.

"There are being small machines inside me that make for repairs. They can even mend my skin. Doctors say they are being integrated into me such that..." he trails off, not finishing that sentence.

She smiles at Gauntlet "That's neat! I love technical stuff like this. Horrible at actually doing anything with it, mind, but it's still neat."

She glances over at Ron, and points a thumb at Maddy. "What she said. You see, a lot of stuff has a spirit living in them. Dont as me why, they just do. I was given some long philosophical reason about it once, but frankly it was boring as heck and my eyes glazed over during most of it. Anyways, I can talk to them and see them if they want me to. Most of them are kind of...wierd. I suspect if you lived inside a rock for centuries with no one else to talk to, you'd probably be wierd too."

Once seated, Ulla-Maria speaks again, "Thank you. I am Eversti ... Colonel Ulla-Maria Wallenius, but my colleagues call me Scout. I understand we may be working together, thus I thought to make your acquaintance."

She pauses and looks carefully at the sketch, then comments "I am no artist, but I think that is amazing. Is art your profession?"

The drawing is simple enough. Just a barren dirt ground, a blue skyline with no clouds. It would be completely desolate, if not for the lonely street sign in the right foreground, and a strange tree, far too thin, in the left foreground. The tree is bent, the top of it somehow adhered to the top of the street sign, in such a way that tree, sign, and the ground underneath them form a arch. Near the horizon, there is another configuration just like it, with street sign and tree.

"Nice to meet you."
She's horribly polite. "I'm Nimbus... Toni Barnes, if you prefer. Yeah, I'm an artist. I work out of a loft downtown. There's a gallery nearby that displays some stuff... and a couple are at some trendy cafes... What about you?"

She seems somewhat shy, quickly skittering off the subject of herself, fidgeting her fingers and the pencil.

Maddy quirks an eyebrow as she adjusts her glasses. "Man, you just described my high school experience so accurately, it's uncanny."

The young woman wearing military uniform, listens carefully as Nimbus speaks, her gaze returning occassionally to the sketch, and then replies "I am a colonel in the Finnish army and I have just been transferred here from the UN task force. Apparently bureaucracy is slow the world over as I am still waiting for them to finish my paperwork and my Resolute uniform."

She smiles, slightly, as if slightly uncomfortable with displaying emotion with someone she barely knows. She is silent a moment before asking, "If it is not too impolite, may I inquire as to what talents led you to the Resolutes?"

Ron looks from Maddy to Maria, "That sounds a lot like VooDoo" he says with a shrug, "But that's a Haitian thing, I don know much about it"

The tall Native American smiles and chuckles a little. "You sound way more prepared for this sort of thing. I'm sure, if they accepted a college drop-out like me, they'll take you."

At the question, she shrugs one shoulder. "I'm a light switch. Or... 'energy controller,'" she makes quotation marks in the air with one hand, "they called it. It's more complicated than just a light switch. I can generate light, bend it to become invisible or make someone else invisible, and..."

Holding out her hand, palm up, she slowly closes her fingers. As they close, they are filled with the hilt of a longsword, made purely of light.

Ulla-Maria's eyes widen slightly as Toni pulls a sword of light out of thin air. She is silent a moment before she replies almost absentmindedly as she continues to look at the blade of light, "Thank you. ... ... I can see the practicality of such a talent ... The blade looks to be very efficient, is it a sharp as it looks?."

After waiting a moment for Toni's answer, Ulla-Maria continues, "For myself, my talents lay elsewhere. I am able to teleport. It is something that I have found most useful, though it is not a weapon in the same fashion as your blade."

Maddy glances at the blade. "Well, now you just have to worry about large, shallow-breathing men in black armor who happen to be your father."
