Hybrid D&D: Combining editions (especially 3E and 4E)

It does have raise two issues:
1) Actually doing it. This does require delving into a lot of details and a lot of time, and you will find that as you get closer to some goals, others will move farther away.
I did it as a labor of love... because I dug Castles & Crusades but wanted a game that blended the best of C&C with AD&D a little better. I'd rather spend my free time making a game that I love than watching the tube or playing video games anyway, so I have plenty of time to work on my rules.

2) Actually playing it. 3rd parties, ie players, and maybe even yourself when you get some distance, will wonder: "why not just play 4E, or PF, or 3E, or AD&D, or WHFRPG, or MRQ..."
It's tough to get players to play a self-made game, who say exactly what you said above. I try to pitch my rules as a stripped down d20 D&D game that works well with any published D&D materials (it's very easy to port things over to my rules).
