I'd love Venom + Carnage. As JD said, that would allow the writers to make Venom an interesting character, using Carnage as the flat psycho killer.

They're talking a six-arc series, now? I had only heard of three.

I had kind of assumed that the villian for the next film would be one of several characters, but my odds on favorite was the Hobgoblin or Green Goblin II, where that character is really Harry, following in the footsteps of his dad.

It's pretty clear that with the addition of Doc Connors as a minor character, that the groundwork is being laid for the Lizard. I can see the Scorpion being a very viable character, if they play up his 'trapped in the suit' aspect....but after Doc Ock, he might be too derivative unless they seriously revamp him.

Sandman would be a great villain from a CGI perspective, but doesn't really have much of a story to drive him. Electro is too camp, for one thing, and his powers are only mildly interesting. I don't much care for Kraven as a character, but I think he could make a great villian and a great movie (the hunt aspect makes for a compelling game of cat-and-mouse).

Venom is just not much of a compelling character, in my eyes. Mysterio would be a much more fun villain than most, with lots of opportunities for neat cgi trickery and superheroics...but like Electro, he'd need some revamping to make him somewhat less campy.

They need to buy DareDevil, and have Tobey and Affleck duke it out in the beginning of one movie, just for humor's sake. Then, have DD make the occasional cameo.

I'd love to see at the begining of the Third movie a montage of scenes with Spidey beating up some minor villians like Shocker, Rhino, Electro and people of that nature. That way they can show him dealing with other threats. As for the main villian of the Third movie I'd like to see either Venom, Green Goblin, Black Cat, Kraven the Hunter or the Lizard.

I could also most see them using two villians if it was done well. Specifically the Black Cat since she could very much be used on both sides. Help Spidey against whatever villian is the main one and as for someone for Spidey to have to struggle with when he catches her robbing some place.

I think that the "cool factor" for many classic Spidey villains is insufficient to get them into these movies.

So far as we've seen and heard, the Spider Man movies are hero flicks, but they focus on telling the story of a young man struggling with life as a hero. Action is secondary to the story, thankfully. A villain that does not make that story more interesting or complicated really need not apply.

Rhino, Scorpion, Electro, Vulture, Shocker and Sandman are, for the most part, simple fighting villains. They make for great action scenes, but nothing about them screams "I make the world more interesting for Peter Parker." You could write a story around them, but they have few plot hooks in and of themselves.

The Lizard, Kraven the Hunter, the Black Cat, Mysterio, Green Goblin II/Hobgoblin, and/or a well set-up and constructed Venom all have greater psychological possibilities as story elements.

Agreed. That's why I'd favor having a minor villain in #3 while Spidey deals with the black suit. The fact that he's fighting someone is incidental to what's going on around him. I think the Lizard, Kraven, or Mysterio could be good in this role. The first two because of their personalities, and Mysterio because of his illusions playing a good foil to the symbiat's heightened senses.

Or... Kraven and the Lizard. Two prey for the price of one for Kraven. And, is Spidey hunter, hunted, or protector? It's a great way to spice up two cool villains who otherwise might not be able to hold up a story on their own. Plus, both would test Spidey on some level, giving him a chance to try out the new suit.

Have you learned absolutely nothing from the crud that was the Batman movies? If you want only action, you can toss in as many characters as you want. If you want solid story and character development, you must focus. It is hard enough to do the story of both a hero and a villain. To expect decent treatment for multiple villains and the hero is simply asking too much. A couple of hours simply isn't enough for the task.

These are characters we love (or, for villains, that we love to hate). To do a slapdash job on any of them because you're too damned impatient to see them on the bitg screen is, IMHO, dumb. Better to leave some of these villains fallow than to do them badly.

I think the point we've been trying to make here, though, Umbran, is that there are a lot of shallow villains that can be either henchmen or simply slugfest type villains that make up part of the movie but don't require real development. It's a little tricky to pull off, as the Batman movies generally show, but in theory it can be done.

Caveat: I am not a comics mavin.

As a kid, I always was nervous when Spidy went up against Doctor Doom. It was made pretty clear back then that Doom could pretty much wipe the floor with Spider Man and so anytime Doom was on the cover of a comic I got a little scared.

I'd like to see Spider Man 3 with Parker getting his butt handed to him by Doc Doom, which would make a tie-in to 4.
