"I add my strength to my breath." "Your breath is strong?"

Considering that it's a divine ability, I'd more describe it as calling upon the power of your patron to bolster your attack. So I would be more suprised if it could not be applied to non-martial attacks.

I assume that one 'build' of paladin is based strength, just as we know rogues have (at least) a finesse build and a thug build. Hence the use of strength bonus fits thematically. I can picture such paladins regarding the exercise required to maintain their strength and vigor as a form of religious devotion.

Yeah, I like this approach. The god lends the strength of the arm dedicated to his work once over to your next endeavor. Doesn't matter what the endeavor is or that it's anything strength related - gods think in potency not energy.

Breathing lightning?

Hmmmmm...

That's actually pretty hard. You'd need an ionized path, as well as something to generate a solid, high wattage blast of static electricity.

Its really the ionization that would be difficult, as most things that would ionize a path in the air are going to be deadly to the creature generating it, or allow it to be radiation proof... which has other issues.

So, I'm resorting to Magic as an answer.

Or at least the plural 'Primal Chaos'/'Divine Spirit' nature of dragonkin.

Sure. The powerful muscles that support the glands that store the chemicals that create the breath weaopon contract, forcing out a more intense blast of said breath weaopon.

C'mon, how the hell does a dragonborn "breathe" lighting, anyway?

Shoop da whoop?

A Dragonborn has an innate connection towards one of the (often) elemental realms like their larger counterparts. When "breathing lightning" what the Dragonborn does is create a sympathetic connection between its breath and the realm, allowing the essence of the realm to travel upon the Dragonborns breath.

The DB Pal's "Channel Divinity: Divine Strength" adds his strength bonus (+4) to damage on his next attack.

It doesn't specify what kind of attack, be it melee, ranged, area, etc.

So, can the pally put that bonus to his breath attack?

Why not?

Breathes extra hard. It takes muscles to expand and contract lungs, after all.
