or wanting to support 3pps. Empathy exists, you do not need to be directly affected to see how something can be negative for someone elseSo everyone who is mad about the SRD is a publisher?
yeah well, we can turn this around and say it looks pretty egotistical to only care about oneselfAnd this affects the lives of regular people? Sounds like a lot of entitlement to me.![]()
you do not need to release it, it already is open, you can reference it howeverI'm not sure what you're asking. Is there something that stops you from releasing content you don't own (i.e. a 5E 2024 SRD that's only released under Creative Commons) as Open Game Content under the OGL? Yes: that it's not yours to release.
so basically your answer is that there is no point to ever do anything with itThe OGL is still in effect. It covers the current SRD. WotC is not currently making any moves to stop people from making content with OGL. So everyone can make whatever they want currently. Moving the SRD to CC will only mean that WotC can never take the 3.5 SRD away (which legally the most like can't anyway
at the same time they could have just slapped the CC on it a year and a half ago, would probably have generated more good PR tooIt is a PR stunt really, and I would think they would want to get some good PR, but the have a lot of that with the new books so it can wait.
is it entitlement to think that WotC should not be breaking a contract? No one demanded they release something new for free, they said that they cannot legally undo a move they made 30 years agoIs it entitlement for people to think companies should give away their stuff for free?
Material released under the CC isn't "open" in the sense of being Open Game Content under the OGL.you do not need to release it, it already is open, you can reference it however
we owe them nothing either, so we can demand whatever we feel like from them as a condition of continued business… and they might not ‘owe’ us to not violate a contract, but the law has something to say about that tooThey owe us nothing. I just don’t understand why people think they do.
can you mix them or not? I believe you can, all you need to do is reference the SRD. So who cares whether it is open under the OGL if you can use it in products alongside OGL contentMaterial released under the CC isn't "open" in the sense of being Open Game Content under the OGL.
My inability to smolder about something that almost happened 2 years ago but didn’t is the least interesting thing to happen to me today.yeah well, we can turn this around and say it looks pretty egotistical to only care about oneself
Also, they were violating a contract and the trust of people. You can do you, but not even being able to understand how someone can be upset about this is… interesting
