can you mix them or not? I believe you can, all you need to do is reference the SRD. So who cares whether it is open under the OGL if you can use it in products alongside OGL content
In order to safely use Open Game Content, you must publish it under the OGL. You cannot publish it under CC unless you own it.

Games like FATE that did both were not derivative of OGC, so those people could decide how and where they wanted to publish their Open Content.

I am sure there are a lot of corner cases and fuzzy lines.

It is completely unnecessary if they release it under CC. There is literally no benefit.
The benefit is to the community; for that matter, WotC indirectly benefits by getting more goodwill. And again, it costs them nothing to do so, since they're already drafting it for and releasing it under a different license already.

I don't see how how it is a benefit to the community. Can you explain?

the contract they wanted to revoke, remember that one? That they ultimately did not is not to their credit, they had to be string-armed into doing the right thing
And people are still angry about this. This is what I have a hard time understanding.

They fixed the thing they broke before actually breaking it. Why people are still waving their hands in the air about it all this time later is what perplexes me.

I’m not implying that anyone is right or wrong; I’m admitting my short comings as to understanding why there is so much animosity.

Have a great weekend fellow gamers.

I'll refer you to my earlier post about the chilling effect of trying to navigate two different licenses simultaneously in the same product.

There's literally no reason for WotC not to make it easier for everyone to use the material they've already said they're going to release. Putting out a patchwork collection of some things being released under one license and other things released under a different license creates a degree of complexity that benefits no one.

you can use a single license incorrectly too
Yes, and so using two licenses at once makes it twice as likely. Hence why it's better to not have to in the first place.
it doesn’t hurt, and yes, I do expect everyone to use the CC, anyone using the OGL will be tied to older SRDs, not the new one
If you grant the premise that it doesn't hurt, then why not release that material under the OGL too? Likewise, no one is "tied" to any older SRDs; they can pick and choose which SRDs they want to use, including the 5E 2024 one if WotC releases it under the OGL in addition to the CC.
