I had a D&D moment today...

I had such a D&D geek moment today...

I was talking to a friend when he mentioned that we were about to be hit by a cold spell. Obviously, he was talking about the weather up here in Boston.
But my first thought was, and I kid you not, "You mean, like chill metal or ray of frost?" Then I proceeded to think "Ah...those are pretty low level spells anyway". Then I realized what he was really talking about.

I told my friend this and he went, and I quote : "WHAT?!?!??!?!"

:D

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Every now and then it does...but that is really darn funny :D

Whats really amusing is that I have a non gamer friend who is starting to "get" why it's funny when I occasionally say things like "He made his reflex save" when we see someone do just that.

What frightened me a tad about today was that weather was REALLY not the first thought in my head. I really thought for a few seconds he was talking about ray of frost or something. :uhoh:

When I was planning for an adventure, I was looking at making a Druid villain NPC. Just a few hours later, while having lunch, someone was talking about the damage his car took from the hail storm we had last night, the first thing I said was "But Ice Storm only does 5d6 so it can't do that much damage." My friends gave me a  and a :uhoh: look. :)

That is very funny!

Yeah, I've done that. Just tonight as a matter of fact. My wife is pregnant so her eating habits are erratic. Net result: I'm cooking for one instead of two. So I'm rummaging around the kitchen trying to decide what to make and she says we've got one potato left. This makes me nervous because when we have a single potato, it's the survivor who outwitted and outlasted all other potatoes by never getting voted out of the bag. Grizzled, nasty old potatoes.

I pull it out and am surprised to find it's reasonbly fresh. I mutter to myself, "Hmm, not a beholder-potato--I'll eat this."

She assumed it was a gaming reference.

I don't recall any such speek coming from my mouth in front of non-gamers. I do, however, recall many times where I debated rules with gamers in front of non-gamers in the middle of an ordinary conversation. Tends to confuse a lot of people.

Well, on my last ship trip, one of the sailors turned to me and asked "what's an RPG?"

I was about to say "role-playing game" until I realized that he was referring to a story about a guerilla attack in Iraq and he was referring to "rocket propelled grenade."

I have had other moments like that, but that's the one that comes immediately to mind.

MojoGM & I both work at the same place. Everyone who knows us, knows we play. So the guy who sits next to MojoGM takes a D20 and rolls it. Then he looks at MojoGM and says "Okay...how many battle points do I get?"

Battle points??

So MojoGM relays the story to me, and I run up to the guy and say "Battle points?? You are SO first level!"

The next day Chris(Mojo) explained to him the various uses of a D20 in RPGS and that there were in fact , not battle points, but explained hit points. I think he may have actually sparked the guys interest.

:D
