I have to vent!

I normally don't post in the Off-topic forum, but I so need to vent.

Last night some @$$**** broke the rear driver-side window of my car and stole my computer bag, which I had (very stupidly) left in the car, in the floor right behind the driver seat. I'm sure they thought they were getting a laptop, though they didn't, as I had the laptop with me inside the house. What they did get was my network card, the power cord (which I now need to reorder for the second time, as that was a replacement I got after my cat bit through the original one), my checkbooks (personal and Highmoon Media Productions account) and (what really really hurts) my journals, both my day-to-day personal journal, and my travel journal from my recent two-weeks vacation to Holland and Belgium.

I could care less about the material things, but loosing my journals hurts like a piece of my heart and soul were ripped out (which in a way, they were). Those were my uncensored, unadulterated, raw thoughts and feelings on my daily life, not to mention all the memories from a wonderful vacation through the Low Countries (and to top it off, it was the very first travel journal I had actually gotten to finish all the way through). Somewhere in Miami, so idiot (to keep this PG) has my journals, and has probably just tossed the whole bag away in some dumpster, abandoned field or canal/lake, robbing me of something irreplaceable.

I fully believe in Karma (in Judaism it's known as the law of Midda-Kenneged-Midda, Measure for Measure), so I have no doubt this(these, someone was driving the getaway car) idiot(s) will get their just punishment at some point, but I don't know that I'll ever recover the most important thing I lost last night, and that stings deep.

On a lighter note, my wife asked me if I had anything in the journal that may be damaging. I told her that no, I keep my megalomaniac schemes in a different journal guarded by magic, to which she responded, "Geek."

OUCH!

Sir - I FULLY commiserate. For me the most precious of my earthly possessions in the world are my journals. I have been journalling/keeping a diary since 1989 and have one volume for every year. My journal is where I develop my ideas, recount the days, write my (albeit poor) poetry and such. I also keep travel journals (I have two), "wise sayings" journals, and a small poetry journal.

I have often thought many times: "If there was a fire, and I only had time to grab one thing running out of the house, what would I grab?" And the answer has always remained: "My journals."

Although an understandable reaction (I would lose it completely if my journals were stolen) don't dwell too long on the "I hope they get what's coming to them" side of things though. It only will rub the salt in the wounds, as it were. Easy to say though, eh? :(

God bless you sir. I feel for you.

Ouch!

Okay, as soon as you can- look into each garbage can in the area, each dumpster- you might get lucky.

Why? Back when my wife was in school she had her car broken into and her school bag stolen. While we were waiting for the cops (hay, more then five hundred dollars worth of books were in that bag) I started looking about and found her bag behind a building- the thieves had pulled back shifted through the stuff and realized they had nothing worth taking and left it.

A buddy of mine had his car broken into at a hotel- he called me and I suggested the he look about the area. He was missing a few things, but found some of the things that were in the bags and boxes that were stolen.

You never know, it could work out for you.

Sorry to hear about the theft. No matter the out come it still sucks that people can't respect others enough to leave what isn't theirs alone.

I feel for you about the journals. During my first marriage my ex, who was a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, went on a rampage of throwing things away and dumped many of my personal things, including some journals. I still vividly recall standing in a dumpster at 10 o'clock at night trying to find my belongings by flashlight. I never found one journal - I lost several lists of names I'd created for my fiction, along with some inspirational artwork.

I hope you've followed up with your bank regarding the stolen checkbooks. One of my coworkers just had to appear before a grand jury last week in regards to an identity theft case because someone stole his bag out of his car and began trying to pass his checks. He had to get a new account number, and he's expecting to testify in court several more times.

That is good advice. Look around in hidden areas and the nearest areas where things can be dumped off.

Sucks but I too believe in karma. Something good will happen to you.

Thanks for the words. I also thought about looking around in the dumpsters. Since it happened at my mother-in-law's house, I need to go to that area and search. My thinking is precisely that they will have tossed the bag once they got the electronics. I didn't do it last night because I was just not in the right mind and it was close to midnight, but I'll try to take a look this afternoon.

I'm not dwelling on what will happen to them; I have faith they'll get theirs. And in truth I am trying to move on in regards to the loss of the journals, but it is hard, even for a 31-year-old. I normally don't journal except when I travel (my personal journal started in 2002, right after my wedding) but after arriving from my vacation, I decided to continue the momentum and keep journaling each day if possible. I already started a new one, but that's a lot of memories lost.

What Harmon and others said. Check the trash, in the containers and alongside the road. ?Low lifes like them don't care about littering.

#1- Yes! My GF left her purse at a bus stop years ago. After we got home, she remembered her purse and had me chase after the bus. (it was a campus bus that drives around in circles shuttle students)

When I got back, fruitles and pissed off tired, I asked if she could look into the trash canto see if anyone just tossed it after taking the money. she replied "I amnot a trash digger". SoIdid, andsure enough, there it was. Luckily we just got back fromshopping for sachool books abnd were dirt poor. I think she lost $40

#2- I too believe in Karma and my life has taken a great turn for the better since I have taken it to heart. I believe it's not only the relief you get just thinking that whatever bad happens to you, will be retaliated upon the other person, but also the peace of mind you get knowing that you will get something back by helping others. And with the help, your outlook is better and you are more friendly, sincerely. Guz Fraba

Minor hijack to distract Hal from his loss.

So you journal writers out there, why do you write? How do you find time (I know I know you make time). Writing seems a chore to me and my penmanship is attrocious. But journal writing is at least a curiosity to me and I know there are many who, like you, are dedicated journal writers. So what do you write, and while I know it will vary and there are no rules, how often do you write? How much, How long (time wise)? Sell me on this, please. Besides the excuse to order a journal from Levinger, this is something that has always intrigued me, so gush!

end hijack.
