I just creeped myself out! You ever done this?

This happened a short time ago. It is late here in Texas and I went out to sit on the front porch. Earlier, my brother had set up a really large blow-up plastic cat (looks like a black version of Garfield, I suppose) for Halloween decoration.

So, I'm sitting there trying to think of creepy stuff just for kicks. Then, I look over at the cat and imagine hearing a creaking-plastic noise as it turns its big'ol head to look at me. At first, I found the thought funny, but then I kept sitting there on the dark front porch looking at the cat. The big eyes just stared blankly out into my front yard.

Then for some reason, I suppose it was the wind, the left paw raised up off the ground a bit. My heart jumped, and then for some reason the thought of it turning its head didn't seem so funny anymore. I bolted back inside and locked the door...not daring to peek out again at the cat.

It took about 10 minutes before I could shake off the creeps. And to think...I did that to myself.

Have you ever done anything silly like scare the pants off yourself?

I do this sort of thing all the time. I used to work in radio at a small FM station set off the main road a bit. I worked the over night shift, with no one else in the building. The music was largely automated, so to stay awake, I'd write adventures or read. Don't EVER read Lovecraft in a situation like that. EVER.

Thank you! That is an excellent idea for a Call of Cthulhu game. Night time on a desolate road, trapped in a radio station. Your car breaks down, and the tracklist begins to play an ominous chant. Set to a blues beat.

I used to vacation in a cabin in the forested farmland of Northwestern Ontario. No electricity, no running water, nothing. Just four thin plywood walls and a shingled roof.

I had lots of fun creeping myself out! ;) Used to read poetry late at night. I remember lines like "the thought of a squirrel ran across my roof" and "bear-dusky woods," but I have no idea who wrote 'em. Still creeps me out a little.

No worse - it automates "There a tear in my beer" and a bunch of Conway Twitty songs.

I once dreamed that my cats were playing Gauntlet Dark Legacy on my GC and talking like the Three Stooges. Then I woke up and they were in my brother's room while he was playing the same game and there was a commercial for a 3 Stooges DVD set. Sublimination is weeiiiirrrd.

It's the middle of the night and I've woken up from falling asleep on the couch. Whenever this happens I always have wierd dreams. So anyway I get up and shut off the TV and all the lights and head for bed. From the way my eyes are still adjusting to the darkness and my state of being half asleep I see a shrot pale ghostly visage coming down the hallway straight for me.

It's my four year old daughter woken up to go the bathroom.

My son used to do this as well. Every single time this happens my children scare the living crap out of me.

My husband Drew used to work at the radio station overnight. He was creeped out on a regular baisis.

I have done a few things that creep me out before, like imagined a person standing out side my window.

But nothing I can think of off hand.

I do that sorta thing sometimes. I have a good imagination so if I'm not careful I can frighten myself. But I usually keep it in check by ignoring fear.
But sometimes I just quickly and quitely leave the area or object thats freaking me out.
