D&D (2024) I just got a 2024 PHB From Gen Con. AMA!

I wonder how these poor creatures survived until a ranger adopted them. They were just unable to do anything, until there was a ranger to tell them to. šŸ˜æ
It was the rule in Tasha's that if you are incapacitated, the beast can act autonomously. I presume there is something similar in the 2024 version. It's a gamey compromise to allow people to have pets in the game without essentially having two characters. (See also how a controlled mount can't attack but an independent one can.)

This was asked before but I didn't see an answer. Is there any actual guidance for using subclasses from earlier books?
There's no actual specific guidance about older subclasses (unlike older species and backgrounds, which get a sidebar). Older subclasses would get resolved from the wording of the feature, as far as I can tell. At level 3, you get the subclass feature, not earlier. I think the last sentence of that feature addresses it: "For the rest of your career, you gain each of your subclass's features that are of your [Class] level or lower."

The "or lower" would cause the old level 1 cleric features to come online at level 3.

That's how I read it at least.

Is point buy now the default ability score determinant or is it still Standard Array/Rolling?
Based on the screen I've seen, no change as all three options are presented as equally valid, though they have a table of suggested array assignments for each Class.
