I murdered my AV

I'm a big fan of the parcel system, but I like to generate my treasure more or less randomly... yet it typically takes an annoying amount of time to roll it up and write it down, especially on the fly.

So I chopped up my AV into little bitty pieces, and stuffed the cut-out magic items in a series of color coded cd-cases themselves stacked in a perfect little cube thing.

Now when I want to dish out a treasure, I just bust out a cd case and throw one of the slips to the player.

They're divided into four groupings of slots, four level ranges (1-7, 8-14, 15-21, 22-30).

After the session my players level/update with the CB... we use it so much now that a few of our books rarely get cracked open, so I don't feel too bad about hacking up my copy of AV.

Theres just one problem with that...

didn't you lose a ton of the magic items due to them being on the back of and not aligned with other magic items?

slightly more than half of the items were lost, as I saved as much of the artwork as possible (I'm not sure why, I'm not the biggest fan of 4e's art).

But whatever, I've still got a million items on hand, and 4 or 5 billion on the CB.

Still it's maybe too bad the random treasure deck thing came out today as opposed to yesterday I might have given it a chance...

random treasure deck thing? I'm intrigued. Where can I find it?

It was on yesterdays news page... looks interesting but i'm not sure if it requires zero work once you pull a card, which is kind of what im more interested in.

edit: the news link goes here... http://www.neuroglyphgames.com/review-of-treasure-hoard-by-chaotic-shiny

after reading the review, I understand now that the "deck" is just an icon, its actually a software... and it looks pretty perfect for my needs - totally getting this thang.

Um. Why wouldn't you just print off the magic items from the character builder, and then put them in cards? Or, hell, PHOTOCOPY the pages (you're allowed to do this) and cut from there? Or Scan and cut?

I mean, yeah, good on you for getting all those nifty cards... but you just sliced up your AV, for half the page content! I have a sneaky suspicion that in a few months, you'll be all "hey, I wish I had this specific item on a card... but it was on... an odd-numbered page!"

except I could do what you just suggested, and print them out of the CB.

Hacking up the AV was a lot easier than hand selecting, printing and then cutting up CB cards. Good second choice though.

What I mean is, why not use the AV and print/photocopy/whatever, rather than slicing up? It has the added option of having all of the cards, rather than half - what you're doing is "hand selecting" anyway, since you're cutting into the other side's worth of cards.

It's your money and all, but it just comes off to me as a waste.

I didn't really hand select, it was a berserker freak-out attack. I'm not sure which items made it and which ones didn't (though I was pleased to see the luck blade survived its 50/50 survival chance).

That said, it was a bit of work to do - photo copying would have doubled the effort.

I totally wasted that freaking AV! Hell yeah! Though I think the fact that I never picked up AV2 speaks "volumes" about their utility at my table.
